Mid-High Priced Florence Hotel Recs
 

I'm seeking recommendations for a hotel in Florence for two nights this coming August. Ideal Qualifications:

- located within walking distance (10min max) to major tourist site(s)
- A/C if possible
- Comfortable double rooms (two adults on honeymoon)
- Some semblance of European personality
- Good breakfast
- price is flexible up to 300 Euro

I've combed through tripadvisor and slowtrav, but nothing really grabs me. Hoping someone here will have recommendations for a hotel that really stands out for them. I'm considering the Antica Johlea, or Antica Firenze thus far. The Relais Grand Tour looks great, but is already booked for our dates.

Have you looked into HOTEL DAVAZANTI?

Sorry- I misspelled it. That should be, "HOTEL DAVANZATI". When we stayed in Florence at Hotel Lungarno, we met up with other friends who booked this hotel. It has a very good location for exploring the major tourist attractions, and has excellent reviews on tripadvisor.

Agree that Davanzati is a great choice as well and may be less expensive. The place I recommended is a B&B that gets all-but-perfect scores on TA; the rooms are actually nicer than the website and the place is quite luxurious. Not sure why they have removed prices from their site, but we paid about 200 euro for the Michelangelo room, a very large canopy-bedded double which overlooks the Piazza...perhaps they are over your budget now..you would have to check if interested.

WE had very good experiences with this family-run, English-speaking hotel in a quiet stree near the Straw Market etc.

I'm w/ EK on this. The B&B www.inpiazzadellasignoria.com is really nice. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is great. They give you full use of the kitchen (we used the ovens to heat up some pizza) and free internet access from a laptop in an office.

Hi Sandi!! Also at In Piazza della Signoria the use of the kitchen includes wine, vin santo and lots of snacks...the place is furnished with beautiful antiques and the staff is very helpful.

Loved the Davanzati! Stayed there last year for a week visiting my son studying abroad. They host a reception in the eveing with local wines and snacks. The owners even let me send a bank replacement card to them for my son to pick up after we had left. Great location. Very friendly and helpful owners.

We always stay at the Continental - right neat the Arno. Very european (part of the hotel is a 14th century tower) only a few imnute walk from many sights, individual AC - and a great roof bar with views over the city. Also, a wonderful breakfast with fresh blood orange juice.

Don;t know what the rates are now (haven;t been in 2 years) - but they might fit in August - if you look for a deal.

Do you know yet which room you are getting? Hopefully it's the one with the 4-poster bed (Michelangleo?) which is the one my parent's had. The windows are very sound-proof because it looks onto the piazza. We had the room next to that one and it was not soundproof.

Sorry one more thing...the bathrooms are killer!
