Doesn't everyone? Including (sorry: especially) the Grauniad itself, whose proofreaders were once as notorious for the sloppiness of their spellchecking as the paper's columnists now are for the sloppiness of their logic.

Private Eye (famous, of course for its own meticulous precision) coined the paper's nickname some time in the mid-15th century.

Well it's ignorance on my part then. I figured it had to be a reference of some sort, but I was too lazy to research.

Thanks Flan (or do your mates call you quiche?) - did not realise it was as long ago as C15th - a touch before my time I fear.
