Michelin Maps in France

I am going to be driving around Provence for a few days then driving to Beaune and exploring that area. I am wondering if I should buy a Michelin map here in the U.S. or are they readily available when you get to France? Specifically, I am looking at purchasing the Michelin France Atlas, but would rather just buy the necessary maps in France before I pick up my car. How easy is this?

They are widely available in France, at a lower price, in newsagents, book stores, tourist offices, supermarkets and service stations.
Buy orange-covered regional series that cover wider areas (6.65 euro each) than the yellow 1:200000 series.
It shouldn't be a problem buying maps before picking up your car (depends on the time of the day when the shops are open), but if you can't, rental office should give you some local maps to help you navigate until you can stock up.

Hi brew,

If you want to plot your course before you go, try www.languagequest.com/traveler/index.php

Sometimes the 300 series is better than the 500 series. Check the scale: 1:1.5 is much better than 1:5.0.

The entire atlas of France is very heavy and much more than you will need. Go for the maps.

There is a mini-version of the entire atlas that I have found very useful on many occasions, supplemented by the maps.

You will find these everywhere in France - in bookstores, maisons de la presse, news kiosks, gas stations, even supermarkets. No need to get one in advance.
