Michelin guides - Highly recommended for Tuscany?

Hi gang!
Thanks to you folks, our (first time) Sept. trip for 4 to Rome, Tuscany and Venice is pretty much set. Got air, lodging, a small Ford wagon, and awaiting Scavi reservation response.

I've read most of the threads on here that mention the Michelin guides. I've never seen one in a bookstore, so I don't know what they contain and suppose you must purchase them online. How many different ones are there for Italy?

For 7 days worth of daytrips from Siena, would they be VERY useful? If so, which ones, and is there a best place to purchase?

Also, do they have info that is useful, even if you have a GPS? Thanks so much!

The Cadogan Guide for Tuscany(Umbria & the Marches) would be a good choice.

For Venice and Rome, I'd recommend the Eyewitness Top 10 Series.

Hi van,

You can look up the Michelin guides at http://tinyurl.com/cvmr8

You can see maps, driving directions and Green Guide recommendations at www.viamichelin.com

Don't know if there's a Borders Bookstore near you vanman, but that's where we got our Michelin Green Guides.

They concentrate more on the sights, not on hotels, restaurants, and such.

Michelin green guides are for sights(and recommended scenic drives). Michelin Red Guides are for hotels and restaurants.

In the green guides, they have a one star, two star, three star system for ratings.

A lot of bookstores will have a few greens but maybe not the one you need. Amazon probably will have the one you need.

Vanman, I look at the green guides as a planning tool (traveler's catalog of sights) rather than a driving aid. For diving help you want a good map (maps).
