Hi Mast. That long anticipated trip is almost upon you is it not??

There is one big Michelin map of Germany, Michelin #984. Map #419 is of Deuschland Sued-West -- Southwest. It includes Heidelberg, Mannheim, Nuermberg, Munich, and a little of Switzerland.
Berlin is on maps #416 and 418.
416 covers the area north to Rostock, Hamburg and Kiel. 418 covers the area south to Dresden and Erfurt.
Munich, Augsburg, and Nuermburg are on two maps: 419 and 420. 420 is Southeast Germany. #417 covers the area Mannheim north through Bonn and Koeln. 419 I think gets most of the area referred to in English as Franconia.
One thing about those Michelin maps: they are big. But there is no index of cities like on an American map. Fortunately the Aral atlas lists cities.
you are right,Bob.
I just could't find the right map in my country. even I tried to search from the web sites given by all the kind people here, the reply was always negative. especially the aral atlas, seems like very few knew about it.
as for the michelin map, must I buy SO MANY maps to find the way? or is #984 good enough?

regards,
mast

I find the maps that Aral gas stations sell are just as good and cheaper than Michelin.

The Michelin maps are expensive. I was a little shocked at having to pay out $12.00 for a $2.00 map. The map of Michelin map of Switzerland is quite good, but it is the only one. I boght it before I left last year because I wanted to study the routes. No other map was available where I live, so I ended up buying it over the phone.

The Aral maps are good. I got the atlas because it was comprehensive and cheap.
The Michelin 984 map seems good enough.
I would start out with that one, but the Aral folks seem to do a good job too.

Again, I got mine from onemapplace.com
I communicated with Jeff King the owner and he got them maps to me. But you are not in the USA. I think you could find maps after you arrive. Doug has a real point. Aral gas stations are all over Germany as far as I know.

We have twice used the Michelin "Europe" Atlas. It is spiral bound which is great for long road trips covering multiple countries. It is convenient with its quick page finder guide on the back that zeros in on the country and page you want. It is then handy because you only have the page or two in front of you that you want. It has all the limitations on driving ( alcohol, lights, etc) in the front. We supplement this with trip tics from on line from cwlease to give us an idea about driving times. We used in France, Switz, Austria, italy, czech, hungary, etc. They work wonderfully. Have a great trip.

Driving around Germany has turned me into a map freak. Germany makes THE BEST MAPS. I swear to you, every hill and tree is marked on some of them. If I were you, I would wait and pick up maps of German areas during a fueling stop on an autobahn. Sure they'll cost about ten bucks each, but the fun you will have using them!! I repeat. No one makes such gorgeous maps. Achtung!
