MICHELIN BLUE GUIDE PARIS

I was looking in this forum for some good guide of Paris and being interested mainly in history and monuments I read a post that the Michelin Blue Guide edited by Prentice Hall (which has 1600 pages) is the best, and it could be THE book I am looking for. Now my question: I have looked through google.com cos I would be interested in buying this huge guide online, but so far I havent find anything, only red and green guuides. Therefore I ask again for your help and directions on where I can find this guide. I have looked in B&N online too but to no avail... MERCI LES GARS!

Blue Guide is from a different company (a competitor of Micheklin green guides).

Thank you Adrienne for your help. I had seen this guide by Delia Grey-Durant in Amazon and B&N too, and I think it is the equivalent version of the french one published by Hachette even if the french version has 800 pages and this one has 400 pages! I have looked at the fnac.com site and they have the "Guide Bleu Paris" by Hachette, ed 2002 (800 pages) which is the version I am looking for but the shipping charges cost almost like the book itself...too much so that's why I was looking for something as comprehensive and reliable but less expensive. Anyone else who knows where to get a REALLY good and complete guide of Paris (giving lots of details on historic places and monuments) like the original Guide Bleu Paris?

...and YES cmt! I was wrong in saying that the Guide Bleu is edited by Michelin! ooops

Hi Batuffolina,

Now I'm curious. What is the difference between the 2 guides...what's left out? When I looked at the FNAC site the 2002 guide has 800 pages but the 1999 guide has 304 pages. If you look at the detail page for the 2002 edition, under the word Collection it indicates that it's maybe a guide for the region (regioneaux); the 1999 edition uses the word Evansion - don't know what that means.

Is the Blue Guide edited by Prentice even more thorough with 1600 pages? I'd like to know more about this series.

Gentlemen,Ladies

I suggest you check www.addall.com and search by ISBN 0393318036.

There are a number of used copies available for under $15.00 including shiping.

Good reading.

To Adrienne.
There are 2 versions of the Blue Guides of Paris. One is the Evasion and the other is what I call THE perfect one (800 pages). If you notice, the editions are different and also the covers are different, so I dont take into consideration the Blue Guide Evasion series, but the other one. I know, I may be a little fussy about that, but I think that the 800-page-book (Hachette edition 2002 ISBn 2012436587) the most detailed guide on Paris (on history and monuments).
Thanks jsmith for your advice, I will have a look at the site, even though I think that that ISBN number belongs to the 1998 edition (9th edition, not the 2001 whose isbn is 0393322017). But if the number of pages is more or less similar I will buy it immediately!
Thanks to everyone who helped so far!

You are correct. Since the title changed from the ninth to the tenth my search didn't find it. But it's only a couple of dollars more for the tenth. Good luck.

BATUFFOLINA,

Yesterday, I was in the New England Mobile Book Fair in Newton Highlands, MA. and noticed they had a few copies of the 1600 page Blue Guide, about 3 inches thick, in the closeout travel guide section. They also had copies of the 800 page book. If you're still interested the phone is 617-527-5817 or 617-964-7440.

Amazon carries it.

I bought the Paris and London blue guides from amazon.com for $34. Free shipping as the order was above $25. Paris Blue guide was the 10th edition and was 400 pages. Hope I didn't pay too much, but they were 30% off the list price.

Anybody have any other recommendations for bookstores that sell new and used travel books at a discount?

Chatnoir,

Try this for any books - new and used

and this for used, rare, out-of-print:

Have fun.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with suggestions and advices. Yes I have bought the Blue Guide Paris by Prentice Hall (the one with 1600 pages) over than a month ago through Amazon and it is very very good, very technical, with really lots of details about the history and monuments etc etc. Right what I was looking for! Now I am thinking of buying the Paris and Versailles guide by Gray-Durant (10th ed.) also in Amazon, but I am waiting for a bargain.
Thanks again to you all!
