Metropole or Danieli in venice?

I will in Venice the end of March of 2003 and I would like to book a hotel. I was told Metropole and Danieli are in a great location. Which one shall I go for?

We stayed at the Metropole just a few weeks ago. It is a very nice, boutique style hotel. The rooms are nicely appointed and decently sized. The staff was extremely friendly to us and in general were very helpful.

I know a few guide books suggest that you get a room facing the garden as it
is quieter. However, the view of the Grand Canal from the front rooms is, IMHO, worth a bit of noise and frankly, you can see a garden at home.

My understanding is that the Danieli is one of the best hotels in Venice. If you want the top of the line, that would probably be a better choice. However, if you are looking for a smaller hotel and don't care about staying at the "in" spot, then the Metropole is a good bet.

BTW, Trattoria La Columba is a great location for dinner. HAve fun.
