Metro Paris Tourist Card - worth it?

Hello husband & I will be in paris for 5 nights end of April. take away arrival and departure days we expect just 3 full days to explore Paris. the Metro paris tourist card I think is unlimited travel, 3 day museum and monument pass? what is the cost of this pass and is this the best option for us? we are staying in an apartment in the marais.
I had originally thought of getting the carte orange pass but dont think we are there long enough to warrant it and we arrive on a Saturday. we would then still have to buy museum pass. where would I buy the Metro Paris tourist card also? can you buy at CDG on our arrival? also where is the location of Saint Denis? definately want to visit here. many thanks

I hope I have the correct name of this pass. I must have read about it quite some time ago and wrote it down for later reference. I do want a pass that includes travel and museum, monument passes combined, if there is such a pass. thanks

www.museums-of-paris.com/museum-pass.php or www.intermusees.com
Gives you entry to 40 museums & monuments in the city. 1 day= 18E,
3-day: 36E. Can be purchased @ participating museums, Paris Tourist Office, major metro stations.
No to the Carte Orange as you know.
St. Denis statue is in square Suzanne
Buisson in Montmarte.

64kerry- Hi again!I am far from an expert(I haven't been to Paris yet ), and was going to say there wasn't a card to combine both, but I just did a search and found the Paris Pass. Hope this helps.

www.paris-pass.com which has 2,4 & 6 day combined museums and transport.

2day 79euro
4day 119euro
6day 149euro

Includes entry to over 60 museums and monuments, plus the paris visite card(transport zones 1-3 & special discounts booklet).

It seems to be very expensive as the museums & monuments pass on it's own costs:

2day 30euro
4day 45euro
6day 60euro

and the paris visite card, from what I can see costs:

1day 8.50euro
2day 13.95euro
3day 18.60euro
5day 27.20euro

I must be missing something here, or is the Paris Pass just a big ripoff?

Hi 64,

If you intend to spend 3 days riding the metro between museums and galleries, a pass might be worth while for you, but you are going to miss most of the charm of Paris.

I was just thinking the same thing Ira.
Paris is a walking city so hopping on a bus never lets you out of it's sight - Use the metro only if you are going across the city in a hurry.

thanks everyone
I think maybe Im best to go with a museum pass and then perhaps buy the carnet transport pass and yes I didn't think we would use the metro hardly at all just buses and walk, walk. where will I buy the museum pass from?

64kerry--You basically have 2 questions going here: one concerns the passes for transportation and one concerns passes for museums. I've looked at a number of options for my own trip next week, and here's what I've learned:

Museums will range in price for single admissions, but if you like going to museums, 2 visits a day "pays" for the pass on a 4 day pass @45 euro(11.25 euro/day). Even if you just break even, you have the advantage of not waiting in lines to buy tickets; someone has also pointed out that museums can be convenient places for a bathroom break, or you can just "pop" into someplace for a few minutes where you would not go if you had to pay full price.
For me all the above make a museum pass a "must" for me.

As far as transport goes, the Paris visite is sold to tourists, but the better deal is the mobilis daily pass
for 5.50 euro, which gives unlimited bus or metro rides in zone 1 or 2. If you don't think you'll use it 5 times in one day, then the carnet of 10 tickets is best.

In short, the combinations that were listed at the beginning of this thread are very expensive, and nowhere near the value that you can get on your own. They have been packaged to sell and make a profit for their resellers.

Museum passes are bought at any of the museums that honor it, and you can probably get it your first day at the Pompidou Centre. The mobilis pass is sold at most metro stations; it does not require a photo ID.
Have a great trip!

Hi, Kerry--this is my 4th trip to Paris. We have rented a studio apartment in the 5th, not far from Notre Dame. There are so many wonderful things to do and see in Paris, including just enjoying the ambiance of the city.

One of my favorite things to do is a boat tour of the Seine on arrival day, as it gets me out in the fresh air and orients me to the major sights.

Tell us what type of museums and art you like or would like to explore, and we'll make suggestions for your trip. It sounds like you arrive on a Saturday, leave on a Wednesday. Keep in mind that Monday and Tuesday are days that many museums close.

Hi Barb thanks for replying
we are very interested in history of buildings.coming from Australia we are a very young country and just don't have the history of Europe. we would like to visit the louvre but we are not all that interested in art more that it is so famous a place. can't imagine us spending a few hours there. we are interested in walking through the neighbourhoods soaking up that atmosphere stopping for a lovely lunch, coffee and people watching. visiting the markets, flower stalls, looking at and buying some of the local foods. we had thought a trip on the canal with Paris canal sounds nice or/and batobus cruise along the Seine. Musee Carnavalet history of Paris sounds great, St Chapelle for the stained glass windows, Musee de Cluny, Sacre Couer, the Orangerie. my DH would like the catacombs. wandering around the two islands, looking in interesting stores for small gifts, Montmarte and visiting St Denis. wondering whether to do a walk or two with Paris Walks?
Its very important to us not to be rushing around like mad things, don't want to just tick places off a list and say we saw that but didn't really soak it up. We are in an apartment on Rue Bailley in Marais so would like to go out each morning for breakfast in a boulangerie (i think this is right). I have just recently bought an eyewitness guide top 10 Paris which I think will be invaluable. as yet though I dont have an itineray for each day I just thought we would wing it but should I have some rough itinerary? we arrive CDG at 10.00am on Saturday 28th April and leave CDG 15.05 3rd May I appreciate your thoughts many thanks Kerry
