metro in barcelona
we will be arriving at Sants railway station and would like to take metro to our hotel which is near the Liceu metro stop. we have carry on size luggage but would like to know whether there are only stairs or are there elevators or escalators. have read taixs take long time due to narrow streets and pedestrianized areas. some stairs are ok but not several long flights
thanks for any help |
Whilst in his 70s, my dad kicked a pickpocket partner in the a** at the top of an escalator and told him to bugger off (the partner stops at the top or bottom, fusses with his shoes while in your way, buddy comes by and tries to bump-and-swipe), so there are escalators in some stations!
Probably not the info you were looking for . . . |
I'm not sure what the problem is that you heard about with taxis taking a long time, but we used taxis in Barcelona for a lot of our transportation. They are plentiful and relatively inexpensive, and we didn't run into problems with narrow streets or pedestrianized areas that the drivers couldn't avoid.

Unless there is some sort of massive traffic jam ELSEWHERE along the route there should be no problem for a taxi even if it has to be ON Las Ramblas since there are lanes on each side of the middle pedetrian area for vehicles to use.

BTW, WHICH hotel????

Here's a good link re the Barcelona Metro in case you haven't seen this one. BEWARE of pickpockets! No, I am NOT saying "don't use it" (the only time I've ever been robbed was while riding thr Barcelona Metro and I still use it every time I visit)..just be aware.
In the linked pges there is discussion about "Barcelona (Metro) has up escalators everythere..." Now, if they could just do something about the heat in some of those stations in the Summer.... |
don't forget... there is a taxi fare supplement for pick-up at the station and for each bag in the trunk.
Some people think they are being ripped-off when taxi drivers add the supplements the the fare. Not so. |
I just took the metro to Placa Catalunya after arriving at the Sants railway station. As I recall there were escalators in some but not all parts of the station. I remember there were also staircases we had to use.
|
dukey.. you forgot the link
|
thanks everyone. probably will uses taxis. i tried to find out which stations have escalators on metro website but info is not available. they are suppose to be installing a lot of them in the stations in the near future. i am also aware and have read article on pickpockets

If you look at the official subway map: http://www.tmb.cat/img/genplano.pdf
The R hand INDEX has the wheelchair symbol - all the stations listed below that symbol are wheelchair accessible, which means there are ELEVATORS at those stations. They include both Sants Estacio and Liceu |
You could take the Aerobus (5€)from the airport to Placa Catalunya and walk the rest of the way. It's downhill and not that far.
