Metro/bus "cards" Berlin
I read something on a thread here about Berlin weekly metro/bus cards that are unlimited ride.
Can someone explain the options please or direct me to transport options? I am not interested in a tourist pass with museum discounts and the like, just want unlimited ride card or at least figure out the best value for a 10 day trip end of May and I plan on using the subway and bus to get around. My days are arrive Wednesday leave on Friday if that makes a difference. Thanks! |
cherrybomb:
Berlin and its suburbs are divided into three transit zones (A to C). Zone C includes the city of Potsdam. There is a 7-day pass for €26.20 covering transit zones A and B. It is valid for 7 days, or rather 168 hours from the moment you validate it in any ticket machine. Zones A and B cover almost all of Berlicn City, and there is no need to buy the 7-days ABC zones ticket (€32.20) except if ypu plan to make more than two trips outside the AB area (multiple visits to Potsdam, e.g.). When travelling to zone C on one occasion, there are extension tickets at €1.40 each way, whoch can be bought at any ticket machine, without needing to get off at the zone limit. Hope this helps Enjoy your trip Phil. |
jeesh, hit that "post" button too early.
The 7-days ticket is valid for an unlimited number of rides on regional railways, the S-bahn, U-bahn and buses within the zones covered. It can be bought at any ticket machine or ticket counter in Berlin. The BVG's English website is quite helpful: http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/Bvg/Start Enjoy your trip. Phil. |
An amendment to my first post:
7-day cards are not valid for 168 hours from the moment you validate ist. They are valid to midnight of day 7 (so if you validate it on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., it expires the following tuesday at 12:00 midnight). Sorry about the misinformation. Phil. P.S. I better not drink coffee while posting; it seems to make me hit the post button to easily :-) |
Thanks Phil!
I will only need to use in the city so I think I just need the zone a-b. It looks like I need to ride 3xs a day to make it worthwhile, though still easier than having to have a ticket or exact change all the time. Is there a x amount of ride card or dollar card like in nyc? Like I pay for 25 euro of rides in advance or a 10 ride card that the husband and I can share? I assume they just sell the pass and I don't need to show id or get a photo for the card or anything? |
nevermind--I got my answer looking at the website.
Thanks! |
