Meteora Monasteries Greece

I know I have posted about this before but would like some help trying to arrange a visit.
We arrive in Athens on a Sunday night early May and would like to head off to Meteora on the Monday. Looking at tours they all seem to only want to spend 1 night in Meteora but I would like to spend 2 nights and see all monasteries by seeing great meteoron on Monday or Wednesday morning and the others on Tuesday. We have an early flight from Athen on the Thursday so need to be back in Athens around mid afternoon on Wednesday.
Trains seem few and far between for the return trip and I wondered if anyone could advise me about a bus schedule. All assistance much appreciated.

The fastest way to get to Meteora would be by bus.
There are several busses every day from Athens to Trikala, where you would take a local bus to Kalambaka.

Busses are leaving from the Buss terminal at Liosion Street.
Have a look at the website of KTEL busses where you will find all timetables : http://ktel-trikala.gr/?module=defau..._id=11&lang=en

Different monasteries close on different days of the week. Like other monuments in Greece, written materials don't always keep up with the latest schedule. Here is a sample of opening days. Call them up before your visit for the actual schedule. http://www.kalampaka.com/en/meteora/monasteries.asp

Wouldn't a rented car make more sense? You'll need to get from one monastery to another and your time is limited.

While I agree that a rental car would make sense, we took the train/bus combo to Kalambaka staying one night. I don't think there was a bus from Athens when we went.

We hired a taxi to drive us to each of the monasteries, he waited in the car while we visited each site.

There are several KTEL busses everyday from Athens to Trikala, and from there to Kalambaka.
I posted the link with the timetable. Greeks actually prefer the bus over the train, because it is faster.

Thanks, Clausar. I was there 13-15 years ago. There may have been a bus but our hotel concierge didn't know about it?

How the heck do people get up to the top of these cliffs?

How to get to the top (from the parking lot?) Except for St. Stephens, A LOT of steps!
