Message for Patrick (Puglia)
Patrick,
I did a search of Puglia, trulli, etc and found your praise for Masseria Salamina. I have made contact with them but wanted to ask you about the meals. I know that you ate there all 3 nights, but were you on half-board? I can't recall the time of year, we will be there in October - so perhaps the grotto ristorrante will be closed. Did you happen to see in any of the other room? (We are envious of the stone room, but can't stretch the budget quite that far!) I need to reread and find out where you went for sight-seeing (and lunches) in that area. Thanks for any help. Brahmama / Carol |

Wow. I'd love to help you out here, but I'm not sure what you're talking about. We have been to Puglia and I've often raved about our stay in Polignano di Mare at the Grotta Palazzese Hotel, but I've never even heard of the Masseria Salamina! Since you're asking about the grotto ristorante, I suspect it is the Grotta Palazzese you're asking about.
We were not on a half-board plan. But the food, service, and setting were all so wonderful our first night, we broke our cardinal rule of never eating the same place twice and actually ate all three dinners there! I didn't see the other rooms. Our stone room and one other which I think were similar were actually in a separate building around the corner and a few doors down the street. Most of the rooms are in the hotel itself and as far as I could tell, they must mainly or all look out to the sea, as there is certainly nothing to block their view. I'm not sure if there are rooms on the back side which don't have sea views. |
Well - doh - of course. I was referring to the Grotta Palazzese and got my wires crossed.
Actually there are 3 places that I have written to and the other two are Masserias. I've only heard back from the Palazzese so far and they have been extrememly gracious - as we will be coming in by train and they will pick us up. also they will help us out with 1/2 day excurisions. (!!!!) I remember that the food and ambiance was great and that you ate there all 3 nights! What time of the year were you here? Did you write a review - with the places you went and also where you had lunch? I'd love to read it as we are limited to 4 days and want to see everything that we can. At our age, we are never sure if we are going back anywhere! So we really enjoy the here and now. I figure we are making our memories for later on. Carol / Brahmama |
I have brought it to the top for you (sorry, when I finally found the thread I couldn't remember your screen name).
Look for Patrick's Trip Report Part 6: Heel and Toe of Italy. Any questions feel free to ask and I'll consult my journal. They don't call me anal retentive for nothing! |
Patrick,
Ok, I did find it! (the messages are scrolling merily away|) and I asked another question (of course) I can't decided if I am anal retentive or the new popular acronym of OCD (or COD or whatever it is!) Thanks for all your help. Carol /Brahmama |
