Mercure Tour Eiffel Suffren?
 

In May, my husband and I will begin a 16-day trip through France, beginning in Paris. My web research indicates this hotel is in the 15eme. Is that right? Any restaurant suggestions for this area or should we just take the metro to other spots you have suggested? Thanks in advance for your help!

Within a short walk from your hotel you will find three great restaurants - all very good (our opinion) and relatively inexpensive for Paris - between 60 to 80 Euros with a bottle of good wine for two - they are:<BR><BR>La Gitane (telephone 01 47 34 62 92)- 53 Avenue de la Motte-Picquet (between Suffren and Boulevard de Grenelle)- they prepare fish quite well and their petit sale is to die for!<BR><BR>L'Auberge Bressane (telephone 01 47 05 98 37) - 16 Avenue de la Motte Picquet (between Avenue de la Bourdonnais and Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg) - the wild bore stew is delicious and the foie gras with grapes melts in your mouth. <BR><BR>Le Boudoir (telephone 01 40 59 82 28) - 22 rue Fremicourt (from the circle at the Cambronne Metro stop -<BR>just a short walk from Avenue de la Motte Picquet and Boulevard de Grenelle)- EVERYTHING is wonderful.<BR><BR>A couple of great places for lunch, although not close to where you are staying are <BR><BR>Chez Les Filles - 36 rue Washington - Metro Stop George V - Rue Washington is just down from the metro stop on the Champs Elysees. Chez Les Filles is approximately 3 blocks from the Champs. Two women (Flo and Anne)prepare two or three French specialities daily (Monday through Friday). Delicious - approximately 20 Euros for two (of course that includes a large pitcher of wine)<BR><BR>Henri IV - 13 Place du pont-Neuf. Metro - Pont-Neuf. A small tavern at the tip of Ile de la Cite. Cheese plates melt in your mouth.<BR><BR>The above should keep you from starving in a truly wonderful city. Have fun!

Forgot to mention - would highly recommend reservations for dinner. The restaurants are popular among the locals and fill up rather fast. La Gitane even has a non smoking section.

If this hotel is on rue Jean Rey, it is in the 7th, next door to the Hilton, and about 2-3 blocks from the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. The closest metro is Bir Hakeim. <BR>The hotel used to be called Frantour Suffren, and we stayed there in 1997. The lobby, bar and breakfast rooms are very nice - it's a large hotel. Our room had a big bathroom, 2 twins, TV etc. If I stood on a chair, and cranked my head 'way to one side, I could see the tip of the Eiffel Tower!<BR>Some days there is a big market under the metro rail (overpass?) along blvd Grenelle.

I stayed here in the mid-90's. It is the one next to the Hilton. I agree that the lobby and breakfast room were nice, but the room was the smallest I've ever stayed in--anywhere! Not a problem, because you aren't in your room much anyway, right? Also, this hotel is used by LOTS of tour groups so there are always lines for the elevators, bar, etc.<BR><BR>I now stay in the 6th. I thought the location was excellent, however. <BR><BR>Have a great trip!

This hotel did used to be the Frantour, but it IS in the 15th. Rue Jean Rey is in the 15th arrondisement, not 7th. Of course it's very near the border--ave de Suffren divides the 7th and 15th. The Paris Hilton is actually in the 15th, although you won't hear them advertise that.

There will be a number of small (10 to 20 table) local restaurants along Suffren. Don't overlook that you are about 4 blocks from the market on Rue Cler. A picnic breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Parc du Champ de Mars on a sunny day is about as good as it gets.

Thanks, Christina! I noticed on some websites a hotel might advertise or be categorized as being &quot;in the 7th&quot;, then you see the actual street address as 75015. In this case, it's 'close enuff'.

This is on Ave Suffren, then? If so, one of my favorite brasseries is on that street, Chez (Brasserie) Ribe, 15 Ave Suffren, so very close to the Eiffel Tower. I've been there the last 2 times and plan to eat there again the 1st night of my upcoming trip!<BR><BR>If your hotel is in the 15th then it must be nearly on the northernmost border abutting onto the 7th.<BR><BR>Schildc1, have fun in Paris!! Many thanks for all the precise information! The online maps of Paris' districts are so tiny. Or is it my eyes?! Anyway, I appreciate all the responses and promise to speak enough French to not be embarrassing. If we could now have world peace, I'd be even more ecstatic!
