mephisto shoes
I read somewhere that there is a great mephisto discount store in Paris-can't find the reference-anyone know where it is?
|
Jezebel Chaussure on the Rue Cler is one.
|
I got my first pair this summer and find them just awful! What a disappointment!
|
i am sure there is a discount store, but i can tell you that at the regular meph. store you will save a hug amount over the american price...the last sandals i bought (mens) were about $250 in the usa and about $110. in nice, so paris should be about the same

If you ever get to Portland OR, Norm Thompson has an outlet store in Lake Oswego (at Mountain Park) where all the shoes are for 1/3 off and frequently sell for 1/2 off or less. They carry Mephistos, though it is hit or miss. Also, Eccos and many other brands of comfortable shoes. You can get Ughs for 1/2 price or less. When we lived in Portland, I used to check it out regularly and find great bargains.

ita: If there is an Off 5th (the clearance stores for Saks 5th Avenue) in an outlet mall near you, you can almost always find Mephistos for around $100 or a little more, and as low as $60 during special sales.

chris: No brand of shoes works for everybody. I can't wear Ferragamos or most Italian shoes, while the lasts used for Mephistos, Cole Hahn and most Soft Spots match my feet perfectly. Sorry they don't work for you - but keep looking.
I believe the largest Mephisto shop in Paris is at
116, Avenue du Genereal Leclerc, Paris, 14th arr.
Metro: Alesia.
Have a look at this site for more information (also information in English available).

www.mephisto.fr

If you buy Mephistos at Galeries Lafayette you get the French price for the shoes (half of American), 10% tourist discount AND the VAT back (another 19% maybe) if you spend enough (180?) on the one day--not hard with the shoes being about $150.

Gretchen, when I was in Paris in May of '02 and inquired about Mephistos in GL, they told me they no longer carried them. Is your experience of buying them there prior to that or since? These things change so quickly.
|
Hi--have bought Mephisto's in Paris and Montreal for less than in the US--and styles not offered in the US. But the dollar isn't as strong now. Anyone bought Mephisto's in Paris recently? How do the prices compare to US prices now? Best location to buy them? We are heading to Paris in October.
|
To grandmere--no, I don't have that info. We shopped in the rue Cler store--or tried to. Think about trying on shoes in a closet. Just wasn't working-but they have a good selection. I don't think they are at a discount--just French prices.

The French do not embrace mephisto shoes the way we Americans do.
Are there any French persons out there to tell me why? |
Well I'm in america, but i have only had bad luck with mephisto shoes. They just don't fit my feet right.
|
There you go! One brand does not work for another's feet. you really must try the different ones. So far, I have found for me, with a wide foot, Born, oK and more fashionable. My best friend wears Arche, that are so unconfortable on me.

I absolutely love Mephistos - wouldn't wear anything else when traveling. I have bought them in the U.S. and Paris
and also in Dijon. The French prices are much cheaper. I bought 3 pair of sandals which I wear all the time at home in Florida at a Mephisto store in Paris (which I had found address for on the internet). It was north in an area which wasn't the greatest, somewhere off the Boulevard des Batignolles - quite out of the way, but was worth it when I found the sandals. There is also a store in the 7th around the Sevres Babylone area. I saw it when I was going to the Bon Marche, but I don't remember exactly where. |
I just returned from Paris and looked around the shoe dept. at Galeries Lafayette. They did not have Mephistos that I saw. They do carry Arche.
There is a Mephisto shoe store on rue de la Convention in the 15th arr that I know of as I stayed near there once -- it is just east of Lacordaire or perhaps Lourmel. I think the one near Alesia may be larger, though. I did not see any prices so don't know how they compare to US where they are outrageously priced. |
No one shoe fits all, so if someone has had a bad experience with Mephistos (or Clarks or Ecco or whatever) it just means that unfortunately they ended up with the wrong shoe for themselves.
Even when I buy fashion shoes, I often end up with a pair that hurts despite the fact that they felt just lovely in the store. And in fact, though I loved my Mephistos during two active trips, the last time I wore them I got blisters. Go figure. Feet change too. |
I have a few pairs of Mephistos (mostly bought on sale) but like my New Balance walkers better. Paying more does not mean you will end up wearing them more.

Just came back from France and found a Mephisto store in Chamonix that had a large selection for half price!!
