menu/ordering ettiquette in Paris restaurants?
In most fine dining establishments, when there is a "tasting" menu (menu degustation), the whole table is required to order it.
But in Paris, where many restaurants offer a special "menu" that includes entree, plate and dessert for a set price (often with limited choices) and also a "carte" with a wider array of choices (often the more delectable items are here,) is it OK for one person at the table to order the "menu" and the other to order off the carte?

Thank you. Since we always share everything, this seems like the best way to taste many delicious things without spending the full fortune for both of us to be ordering from the carte.
We leave for Paris in less than two weeks! Can't wait.

To add a bit more for you. The menu, which is the special plat of the day can be for an entre(appetizer) and plat (main) and dessert, all 3 or you can select only 2 courses...or as many of us do, order two appetizers...it is pretty much whatever you want to do.
Did the 2 appetizer thing at Fontaine de Gaillon the other day...
Enjoy....
