Menton hotels
 

We are planning a trip next May to the Cote-d'Azur and want to stay in Menton. We need hotel suggestions. Hotel Aiglon looks nice as does Hotel Riva and Hotel Napoleon. These seem to be the only hotels with pools or whirl pools. We want to be close to the beach, too. Thanks!

I've been to Menton a couple of times and would not recommend the rocky beaches there. Menton is also a bit too far at the very end for exploring Cote d'Azur. It's still doable but not as practical. Sorry I don't know much about hotels in Menton.

We spent a single night at Hotel Napolean this summer. It is right across from the beach and we had a nice room, not too huge, but certainly not cramped, with a great balcony and view. Sadly due to a one day Italian train strike we didn't get there till almost midnight, so we didn't get to experience much else, except a good walk through the town the next morning.
The staff was so nice. We had been unable to contact them from Italy with the train messups, and were worried that our room wouldn't be available so late, but they were still holding it, even though they had turned others away.

We stayed at the Hotel Princess et Richmond. It does not have a pool, but does have a comfortable sun terrace with lounge chairs and a jacuzzi on the roof. It is directly across the street from the beach (on the Blvd. du Soleil ---not on the bay side.)

It has about nine "free parking spaces" in front of the hotel, and also a parking garage (for a fee). We used the "free" spaces without incident.

It is a short walk ( about 5 or so minutes) from the pedestrianized, old town.

If you have a map of Menton from any tour book, the Princess et Richmond is one block west of the classic Hotel Westminster.

We prefer the area west of the bay because it gets more sunlight, and you have a beautiful view (from the roof) of the mountains.

We were there in late March, so the jacuzzi was more suitable than a pool that early in the season.

I personnally believe that the hotels in Menton that are closer to the city center and adjacent to the Blvd. du Soleil, are better situated than those along the eastern, bay area of the town.

We stayed at the Prince de Galles Hotel in July for one night. The room was large, bright and appeared to have been recently updated. We were on the top floor and had a fabulous view all along the coast. It is located on a narrow part of the street so that you do not see the street from your room or balcony - just the sea. It is on the far western end of the bay while the Hotel Napoleon (we have stayed here also) is on the far eastern end. It did not have a pool though. We thought it was a wonderful hotel for the price (78 euro).

We stayed at the Kyriad for 2 nights in April. A family-run 3-star. Very nice people and a nice breakfast. No pool, and about a 10-15 min walk to the beach. Like someone else mentioned, it is not a sandy beach, but a rocky one. We did like staying in Menton to explore Monaco. The drive between the 2 is nice, and it is way too expensive to stay in Monaco.

We've stayed at both ends of town--Napolean on the east and Prince de Galles on the west. Both were fine though only Napolean has a pool. We love Menton (actually spent a whole week there last November) It's low-key and feels sort of homey. Besides the beach and the coastal towns, it's fine for exploring the hill towns--Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Vence and even a couple of places deep in the hills like Saorge and Tende. If you can tear yourself away from the sea for a day, you'll be handsomely rewarded.

The Pricess et Richmond is very well located.
