Memorial Day at Normandy disrupted

For anyone planning to attend Memorial Day ceremonies held at the Normandy American Cemetery better make other plans:

http://www.abmc.gov/norm.htm

"President George W. Bush will participate in the Memorial Day ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery on Monday, 27 May 2002 at approximately 2:00 pm.

On Sunday, May 26, 2002, the cemetery will be open to the public during the normal business hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

On Monday, May 27, 2002 (Memorial Day), access to the Normandy American Cemetery is limited only to those holding invitations to the ceremony, accompanied by photo identification."

How sad to think that many veterans made plans to attend but will be turned away...

Trust me, Uncle Sam...if a veteran shows up and has ID to prove it, they will be issued an invitation on the spot! Non-vet tourists will have to try another day.

Sorry, meant "Trust me Lin..."

Any veterans in Normandy for Memorial Day will have no problem in finding several cemeteries where they can pay their respects to the fallen, including cemeteries of their comrades in arms, the English, Canadians, etc.

Considering recent events, it should be no surprise that any event in which President Bush is participating will be "invitation only."
