Mega train plus taxi = Cheaper than National express??
 

Would a 2 GBP mega train ticket plus a taxi from Heathrow to Waterloo be a savings compared to National Express at 38 GBP from Heathrow to Southampton for 2 adults with 2 suitcases? Thanks

Huh? Where would the megatrain be going? It's not like the megatrain has its own dedicated rail lines.

And where are you going, Waterloo or S'hampton?

Arriving at LHR and going to S'hampton. Waterloo is where megatrain departs from going to S'hampton.

Have you considered the time as well as the money of going so far in the opposite direction?

If this is for a cruise does the cruise line offer transfers?

Taking a black cab from Heathrow into central London is notoriously expensive. You can check out fares at various websites, but it must be around or even more than the £38, even if that's per person.

But for a coach service all the way to the Cruise Terminal, National Express wants you to take their coach into central London (Victoria Coach Station) and change there, for what seems to be just the one service a day.

It looks as though you'd have a more frequent (and cheaper?) service if you took the National Express coach direct from Heathrow to Southampton Coach Station, and a local taxi from there.

Didn't clock that you considered a taxi from LHR to Waterloo. That's nuts - it'd be over 70 quid - about $120.

I From Heathrow terminals an air bus goes to the Feltham train station (practically within eye sight of terminal 4) and Feltham has constant trains into Waterloo station, taking about 30 minutes - a cheap way to get to Waterloo and all in all as fast or faster than a taxi perhaps if traffic congestion is a problem.

You could actually change at Clapham Junction, Britain's busiest railway interchange, before Waterloo and get on trains to Southamapton.

That would be . . . unpleasant with luggage.

fist what are the chances of getting a 2 quid Megatrain ticket to comport with your landing - when do you really know you will land, clear Customs, get to the taxi rank or tube or Feltham station, etc.

Seems like National Express bus from Heathrow to Southampton is the best thing - if they serve that route - be penny foolish and pound wise - are megatrain tickets available on that day - I think you must book in advance, right?

One quick suggestion - if you're not aware that Southampton is the opposite direction from London - I suggest you get a set of decent maps for wherever you will be going. It not only helps you locate things it can give you an idea of how long it takes to get places.
