Is there a nice cafe near to the train station in Venice where I could meet up with a friend?

Train stations environs are generally not so cozy because of their transient nature. However, I do recalled an internet cafe, Venice Internet Point, very near the train station (across the street from the Casanova Disco). By the way, they will burn you a CD with all your digital pics, in case you want to get that out of the way while waiting....:-D

Do you mean Mestre or Santa Lucia (there are two train stations in Venice)?

At Santa Lucia I know there's a large cafe/cafeteria right IN the train station. Or another good meeting place would be simply on the steps in front.

Try the Belini Hotel, a couple buildings down from the main stazzione.

I believe that the station that the ESP from Florence comes in at is SL. Am I correct?

ESP? Extrasensory perception? I know the Italian trains are good, but I haven't yet encountered one with ESP.

Not ALL trains from Florence go to Santa Lucia; those that continue to Trieste only go to Venezia Mestre. But there are commuter trains between Mestre and Santa Lucia.
