Meed advice on Romantic Road?

We are leaving Rothenburg and are not sure if we should stop in Ulm or go the other way along the Romantic Road. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Leaving in 3 weeks!

Ulm is pretty far off the RR unless you're passing through there anyway Why not explore nearer the N-S route? I don't know what towns you are already planning to visit but could make suggestions if I knew your rough itinerary.

It would help to know your next destination after Rothenburgh.

OOPs!! We are going from Rothenburg to Fussen and then on to Zell am See. I have planned an entire day to drive from Rothenburg to Fussen...about 2 1/2 hours actually driving...I think.

If you follow the Romantic Road from Rothenburg to Fussen, I would recommend stopping in Landsberg on the River Lech. It is a beautiful little village and has one of the most beautiful churches that we saw in Germany, the Arkadenhof. The church is plain and undecorated on the outside, but is magnificient inside and contains a wonderful art collection. We stopped in Landsberg for lunch and just happened to look inside this church as we were passing by. Didn't expect much and were astonished at what we discovered! And, of course, I would recommend stopping at the Wieskirche just outside of Fussen. I'm sure there are other wonderful places to stop, but these were all we had time for the day we were there.

Check abbey at Ettal, near Fussen.
Don't forget abbey at Neresheim, perhaps 30 Km northwest (?) of Rothenburg

Ettal Abbey is fantastic. If you are in that area, do not miss it. Look at the work on the ceiling.

Wies Church is another great stop while in the Fussen area. It will make you wonder how it got built in that area. You have to read the story.

The HOHENSCHWANGAU castle is anther place not to short change. You should plan to do both when you see Neuschwanstein. They are within sight of each other. Hohenschwangau really has better furniture and is more home like. Both done by Ludwig.

Thanks for the information but I am still confused if we should take the autobahn from Rothenburg to Fussen and stop in Ulm or take the Romantic Road. I am thinking we should take the Romantic Road since we will be seeing lots of other churches. Sorry about the "Meed advice on Romantic Road", how about "Needs advice on Romantic Road?

I`d avoid the autobahn and take the Bundesstraße via the beatiful towns of Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen. Also on the way is the beatiful village of Schillingsfürst. A bit further off to west is Creglingen, to the east Weißenburg with its roman remnants. Going south, I'd sometimes even leave the Bundesstraße to follow one of the really small roads to not spectacular, but very authentic villages in the country.
