Medjugore - how to get there?
We are traveling to Croatia (Split or Dubrovnik) from Italy at the end of May and are trying to find the best way to get to Medjugore. Name/contact info for a bus or tour company? Is it easier from Split or Dubrovnik? How long does it take, etc. Any info would be most appreciated.

I believe Atlas out of Dubrovnik is a possibility for a day tour by bus.

Last September, I did this as a day trip from Dubrovnik with Atlas tours (www.atlas.hr), and I would totally recommend them again. It was relatively inexpensive as I recall, the bus was large and comfortable, the guide spoke fluent English and German and it only took about 2 hours from Dubrovnik. You leave at about 9.00am, get to Medjugore at 11.00 (with a 30 min stop along the way), pick up a special guide in the town, then begin the ascent on foot with prayer and explanations from the guide. Hear a mass at 1.00 pm, free time to shop, pray and reflect until 4.00 pm before return to Dubrovnik by 6.00pm with another 30 min stop. Word of caution : Make sure you have good walking shoes if you plan to do the climb up the rocky hill. |
Mathieu,
Thank you so much for your reply. I've spent an enormous amount of time trying to find this information on the Web. Most appreciated. |
No Problem. Let me know if you have more questions. I was hoping to post a trip report of the whole Croatia/Medjugore experience but just haven't been able to finish it and now I'm off again on Wednesday. |
