Medieval festival, Provence/Avignon
I was thinking of taking my nieces on an excursion from Paris to Avignon this coming May. when I was there at the end of May 2 years ago, there was a medieval festival going on. From various banners I saw in neighboring Provencal towns, it seemed that it was the season for it. Well, now I want to find the dates for 2003. I have combed thru the internet but cant find anything on it! Any ideas?

Topping for me! I am wondering if this event is the Foire de Printemps?

Melissa,

When we were there in May, there was a Wine festival going on in several villages in Provence. In Avignon, they had a lot of booths of wine producers, a band, food etc. I saved my glass and a brochure, if you think this may be it, I'll pull out the brochure I have. I think this was more wine related though, than a medevial festival.

Melissa,
I tried it tonight (website) and it worked for me! Try this.
http://www.avignon.fr/en/tourisme

Once in the site, Click: "Culture & Tourism.
Then on the left side of screen: Click: Events

There it is! All the events are posted for the year.

Keep trying.

hmmm, no Medieval Festival in May on the calendar. Oh well! I think the wine fest might be interesting! I could check out the wines while my nieces ride that little shuttle thru the town! hahaha

This is a LONG SHOT, but my French teacher (I live in France) just told me yesterday about a festival of sorts in the area called Les Chevaux, in the town of Camargue, I believe. This is on the 'delta' or mouth of the Rhone River. Apparently, 'gypsies' from all over Europe gather at this place once a year (the month & date change each year!) & have a huge 'festival' of sorts. It is supposedly very popular with tourists. This may have nothing to do with the festival you are looking for, but I thought I'd try to help.
The gypsies GTG is indeed famous, yes. It takes place in Sainte Marie de la Mer in the Camargue (which isn't a town though but an area).

Hey, that is pretty cool, thanks!
