Medical help for minor problems in Paris

I regularly view the Paris Breakfast blog; in today's blog Carol recounts where she went for help when she sprained her ankle. Fortunately we've never had an injury or illness while on vacation, but this is good to know for our next trip -- maybe more seasoned visitors to Paris may have other suggestions as well.

We used SOS Medicins. An English speaking doctor came to our apt in Paris , very professional, wrote an Rx. Saved our Paris vacation. They are found throughout France.

While SOS Médecins will charge you around 80€, if you go to any "centre médical" in the city (you can google them for dozens of addresses everywhere), you will pay 23 euros to see a GP. For real emergencies, the emergency room of any hospital is at your disposal.

You can also ask for a referral at a local pharmacy.

It depends on your circumstances. If you are mobile, during business hours, a pharmacie is a good place to start.

For an illness, not an emergency, here's another recommendation for SOS Médecins. Perhaps not as economical as taking yourself someplace, but when it would be a considerable effort to get yourself elsewhere, they're well worth the extra.
