How gives a prescription a right to allow a person to bring it in?
If I was shown a prescription from another country I would not know if it was genuine or not.
Besides do not The US live in the 21st century? We in Spain have electronic prescriptions. No paperwork.
For those who want to know In the Netherlands one can only get Can.Oil on prescription. Again they use electronic .s.

If I had doubts that taking any medication from my home country to any other country was legal, I would ask the respective embassy for guidance, i.e. France (if you plan to visit only France).
Questions related to traveling with prescription medication across borders are no rocket science guesswork for the experts and you will get an answer that you can rely on.

EU member states may have different legal framework of what is allowed and what is illegal, but a quick glance on the official website of the German Customs Agency told me that it is perfectly legal to bring any medication as personal items with you as long as the quantity corresponds with the duration of the stay in the country and when you can present your doctor's prescription. This also includes controlled substances like medical cannabis. It is recommended to have a prescription or "letter from the doctor" for anything that is a prescription drug at home, and it is required for those types of medication which contain controlled substances (according to German law).
Since the laws and procedures in France can be the total opposite, you should ask the French embassy.

By the way - since the EU and US do not have the same system of classification of drugs, it can happen that your ordinary prescription-only pain killer is considered a controlled substance elsewhere. And can get you into deeper trouble than weed.

Based on what? If such oil is legal in NL with prescription I'd think it no big deal at Schiphol. What do you base your answer on?

It's illegal to bring across borders. Even if it is legal in each place individually/separately.

Can you document that as relates to NL where such oils are legal with a prescription - how is that any different than any other prescription you may bring into NL?

Do your own research. Maybe prove to us that it is ok to bring it in.
You are going off topic The question was about France.

If it were I and that cream was vital to me having a good time walking I'd just take it - very very unlikely any problems. Maybe put it in a skin cream bottle.

You can't say that Google makes it really hard to find this:

Private individuals carrying medicinal products in France

Narcotic drug or psychotropic substance

Private individuals may import narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances only if they carry them personally.
The quantities carried must be compatible with personal therapeutic use for the length of treatment given on the prescription or, where there is none, treatment for one month under normal conditions of use.

From a country that is not a Schengen area member state

  • Principle: the quantity transported is compatible with personal therapeutic use.
  • Supporting document to produce for customs: the doctor’s prescription, production of which is mandatory.

That's fine for the France side. But others seem to say that US TSA agents will have a problem when we go through security when we depart for France, if they find my wife's cannabis cream. If they confiscate the cream - that's OK. We just don't want to be arrested or detained.

I am aware of that. There has just been so much misinformation regarding the French side of your problem that I thought it would be good to know the facts.
