Measles outbreak

Good time to make sure your vaccinations are all up-to-date:

About 15 years ago while in Rome, my husband nearly died after coming down with a terrible case of the measles. Not fun, folks.

Get your vaccinations! (Of course, this applies to people everywhere, but I'm posting in Europe only because the article mentions France has been hit pretty hard.)

Happy (and healthy) travels!

Another good reason to check the tourist board sites of the countries you're planning on visiting. I don't think most people bother when traveling to Europe and it's always a good idea.

I just spoke to a nurse at my doctors office the other week about this. DD will be studying in France so I wanted to be sure she was ok. She is, but I am wondering about myself. I am headed there to meet her at the end of her program.

The UK is pretty badly affected by measles too at the moment.

I blame the scare about the MMR vaccine. I just hope no parents will rue the day they said no to that vaccine. It is not a disease to be taken lightly.

It flares up occasionally in the Bible Belt here in the Netherlands since they don't have their children immunised. And yes children do die of it, but it is far worse for any adult who gets it as swisshiker says.

Having said all that there is no need to panic about it - the chances of you getting in are small.

There have 'only' been 334 cases in England and Wales in the first 4 months of this year, but as there were only 33 in the same period last year, then that isn't too good.
