"Me" time in Montmartre
 

Hi there! I'm a recent college graduate who has decided to prolong her childhood by hiding out in Paris for the next three months. I'll be staying in the Montmartre (rue Montcalm, more specifically) and would like to get a feel for the area. Has anyone stayed in this neighborhood before? Is it "bike-able" (or is it too hilly for bikes?)? And most importantly, can anyone suggest a good and affordable cooking class?

after reading your post, i Googled "cooking classes Paris" and got a lot of hits. try that if you haven't already.

(sorry i can't answer any of the questions, but hope others will chime in too...

It is on a sod-off great hill (the "Mont" part of Montmartre is a bit of a clue) but you can always push your bike up it on the way home.

missa_m : If you go to PagesJaunes.fr and put your address into the street finder, you will see that from the intersection of Rue Marcadet/Damremont/Vauvenargues and Montcalm, that your street is as flat as the proverbial crepe.

Chomondley is right about the 'Mont' part of Montmartre which has Sacre Coeur as it's highest point being hilly - it has many stairs leading up and down to various streets.

Unless you speak French well, good and affordable don't go together.

Copies of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" Vols 1 and 2, are much, much cheaper.
