I lived in England for 12 years and have only just moved back to the USA with my 8 year old dog. It was not easy, however I would never have been able to give him up. Some advice for those of you thinking of travelling with your dogs - if you must travel, get an airline approved crate or kennel that is the right size for your dog (contact the airline you will be using for their size requirements). I got my crate a month before travelling and my dog was fed special treats in the crate when he was getting used to it. I gradually built up the time he would spend in the crate until he was able to be left in it for a few hours with no signs of distress - he would always get a special treat afterwards. So my advice is to please make sure you give your dog enough time to get used to the crate before travel.

We are planning to travel with our Chinese Crested to Paris, from Newy Jersey USA in a few weeks. As a precaution we always try to find 24 Hour Veterinarians in the destination city. I have had no luck with Paris at all.

I would be highly grateful if someone could recommend a Vet in Paris who is available 24 Hours a day (in case of an emergency), or direct me to a list.

Do you know that Dalmatian dog is Croatian dog breed?!

I have booked business class to Italy and back with a combination of Alitalia and Delta. When I called Alitalia to see what the rules were for a service dog, they said: no problem -- the dog has to be 8 k or under, and you will be charged $55 to have her in the cabin. I just called to actually book my service dog, and 1) the computer would not take the reservation and the agent told me to keep calling back (not a great solution) and 2) the size of the carrier, he said, needed to be 44.5 x 21.5 x 26 cm ht. I travel with a Sherpa tote but don't have to use it on an American carrier -- just long enough to catch a cab to the airport in New York. Do you have any insight into Alitalia's policies?
