I don't remember being able to get a sausage biscuit at Schipol and was disappointed. They had McCroissants - ham and cheese but it wasn't hot. And they had no hashbrowns. <BR> <BR>I go to chains and fastfood places because they are usually quick and inexpensive. We Americans don't tend to sit and savor a meal as much as Europeans.

Agree with so many others. Why Mcd in Italy? Yes it is economical but so are many other <BR>'REALLY ITALIAN' snacks that can be found EVERYWHERE. Last year we visited Italy on a budget and NEVER had American fast foods. Webought these sandwiches made from Italian bread which were delicious and filled with many interesting things. Cheap and fast ... no waiting. and you can grab and be on your way never missing a beat!!!!Just be adventurous... The Italians eat very normal foods. Enjoy Italy <BR>It is a wonderful experience.

A McD in Schipol could give "hashbrowns" a whole new meaning. <BR>On a more serious note: When we were not up for a French breakfast while in Paris (and our hotel did not come w/ breakfast), McD's provided quick caloric fuel for the morning's sightseeing. <BR>

Wendy - I saw your comment on the McDonald's hangover cure - it is so true. I am a vegetarian, and I hate fast food, but whenever I get hungover I head to McD's and get a large coke and french fries and I am miraculously cured. It is reassuring to know that I can find a cure for my hangovers on my trip to Paris next month!

Wow -- strong opinions on McD's, but I very much appreciate the responses. Heard about the excellent salad bar at the Spanish Steps McD's (we are staying a block or two from there in march) and was curious about how local a McD's tries to become. I personally will go for the squid ink pasta with salmon eggs--- but, a cold coke and a no-strings attached-constitutional in their restroom -- I can dig that. Odd about the bulgogi burger in Korea. McRoot Kimshi just sounds wierd. Thanks again everyone.

As a European that has lived as a teenager in North America - I love McDonalds despite having lived in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Vienna over the years and travel extensively for business and pleasure. I have eaten what I consider to be some of the best restaurants in the world but still love McDonalds. I have been to McDonalds in every continent but Africa and have loved them all. After 4 months in India a lamb burger in New Delhi is a welcome treat. After three weeks hiking in the Caucaus mountains two cheese burgers in Tiblisi was fantastic (the Georgian bath afterwards I have to admit was even better). 3 months of rice and fish in South East Asia made McDonalds seem extremely appealing. On Madrid there is a McDonalds located in a beautiful building on the Gran Via. In Salzburg - the McDo's is in a beautiful building right beside Mozart's birth house. Milan has the best McDonalds in the world. Also another great and important thing as all true travellers know (both when you are out for the day in your own city or on a long long haul) - McDonald's always have clean bathrooms with HOT water!!!!!
