Good point. I don't drink coffee "at home" and doubt I could get the liquid my friend drank in Paris down my throat.
But, if I need/want caffeine in the morning, I'll drink a Coke. Regular Coca-Cola. It never ocurred to me to wonder if anyone around me approved - or even cared.

Jen -- If you're staying in a Paris Perfect apartment, I am SO envious! My group of 7 stayed in two of theirs last summer in that very area and just loved the experience of the apartment and the neighborhood. There is a store on Rue St. Dominique very close to the apartments where we bought all our basic provisions for the apartments. However, we weren't looking for Coke or Pepsi so don't know if they carry it or not.
Enjoy!!!

Hope you post a trip report when you return!

Robjame: I believe you will find an ice-cold can of malt liquor in those bags -- a "40", as in "forty ounces". A beverage that probably hasn't crossed the pond, not under that name, though there are certainly a good variety of high-test lagers available.
Nothing says "life is short, let's die young, maybe even today" like a nice "Olde English 800", "Colt 45", "Steel Reserve", or "St. Ides" in the morning.

You will have no problem getting coke lite. I have probably bought more than anyone. Its cheaper if you get it from the store, or from the street side stands that are everywhere (about 1 euro a can). One time I made the mistake of ordering it from a cafe across from Notre Dame (6 euros a piece). From then on we stuck to wine in the cafes and bought soft drinks on the street.

I remember when there used to be a Burger King on bd St Michel, a block or two from the Seine (west side). That's been gone a long time, but I don't think Quick got put in there. I always thought Quick had even worse food than McDonalds, hard to imagine.
kerouac, do you know if that cheap drinks place Ah Ca Ira still there just west of place de la Bastille? I liked that because it was a cheap cafe-style place with chairs and tables on the sidewalk (no servers for them, you ordered at a counter inside), but the drinks were a lot cheaper than a regular cafe, like one euro or so. I don't think they had fountain drinks, either, though, but bottles/cans for soft drinks. I do remember they had Pepsi Light or whatever it's called.
I have an office mate who is a vegetarian but drinks about 3 liters of fountain diet coke per day in the office. I see the large cup containers in her trash everyday. I don't even know where she gets it from, she must be desperate, as the closest place for fountain drinks is about a block away from the office building. She also eats a lot of French fries with it, several of those per day.
