Mc Rent in Germany - BAD BAD NEWS!!

Hiring a camper or RV? Stay away from MCRENT!!!!

I am an Australian who was due to pick up a camper van from MCRent on tuesday 28th June. I have just been told that what I thought was a sore muscle in my shoulder is now an issue with my spinal cord and cannot fly.
I notified UK and Europe travel 6 days before and they now will only partially refund money. We wanted to amend the booking - and online it says they will do that - But guess what they WONT!!!!!
It is peak season and they can relet it and they will - they are being greedy!!
DONT BOOK Anything with them.

Won't your travel insurance cover this?

I'm sure if you read their terms and conditions you will find they are within their rights. In fact a quick look at their website confirms that.

Why didn't you take out travel insurance to cover just such an eventuality? They offer insurance or you could have taken out your own at home.

What was in the fine print of the contract? Any date - x days prior - after which the booking cannot be changed any more? If there is, they are well within their rights.

Harming someone's business by publishing false accusations is a legal issue in Germany, by the way.

can your credit card insurance sort something out for you?

"It is peak season and they can relet it and they will "

How can you be sure? Like the others said - a contract is a contract. Pacta sunt servanda. Sorry, but looks like you made a mistake here not taking travel insurance.

I really hate it when someone's first post here is an unjustified complaint. I just read the T&Cs and they are within their rights to only refund 80% of the rental price (cancellation within 15 days of the first rental day) if they cannot rent the camper for the full term that you contracted for. They can perhaps rent the camper to someone else but perhaps not for the full term that you contracted.

Unless you have facts to backup your gripe your post has no credence.

I also hate complainers who tag their threads as trip reports. This is absolutely not a trip report.

Adrienne they charge 80% of the full amount if it is cancelled within 15 days, not they refund 80%.

My partner and I have just returned from the trip of our lives. Europe.
We had booked our flights and a camper from McRent 6 months in advance.
The places we went and the things we got to experience was just amazing. The camper we picked up was a brand new unit.
This had never been used or tested. Try to avoid this if possible.
The navigator never worked from day one and half way through the trip we had issues with all the electrical power on the camper side.
No lights or water. It was a simple switch that only took 5 minutes to repair.
It took us 4 days to get this looked at even after calling the emergency numbers supplied. Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning.
No lights or showers.
Upon returning the camper not much was said at all.
The final inspection was done with only some scratches to a small bolt on piece on the front r/h bumper.
Upon returning home we had a bill for replacing the l/h and r/h bumper parts and a repairing a scratch to the rear plastic bumper. This added up to 910 euro
Just be careful when returning your camper. I would recommend taking some video or a heap of photos of the hole camper. He explained they try and sell them after one season looking like new.
He asked me if I had insurance. The reply was yes.
My advice is to go to Europe and enjoy it.
Just get some insurance so a great holiday dose not turn into a expensive one.
