I would have loved to be there.

As a tourist staying in and near the Marais, I found use of Velibs daunting, and the bike lanes disjointed. Except one New Year's Day evening under a full moon, when drivers were mostly recovering from the night before and we could ride freely along and over the river.

I'd think biking yesterday would have been tricky, with meandering pedestrians enjoying the streets.

Believe me, only stupid tourists walked in the street yesterday. I was one of those, briefly, when I wandered into a bike lane. Velib riders, and they were legion, quickly explained the error of my ways on what I assume was colorful language featuring "Vieux fou!!!", accompanied by glares only The French have mastered.

I wonder if this will become an annual thing? I will definitely plan a trip to Paris around then!

Who knows?

There are lots of zones in Paris closed to traffic every Sunday, generally from 10:00 to 18:00 so it isn't really a novelty as far as I'm concerned. And the Champs Elysées is closed to traffic the first Sunday of each month from 11:00 to 18:00.
