Could anyone tell me if we should be prepared for rain the first two weeks of May in the south of France. I don't mind taking a folding umbrella, but I would mind lots of rain!!! Thanks

My daughter and I were in Bormes (two nights) and Cros (near Nimes--three nights) last May and I recall showers once while in Bormes and rain at night and early morning in Cros. <BR><BR>We went to Bormes to be near the ocean and knew that it should be warm, not hot. There weren't many people at our hotel and the lady at the desk said it had been unseasonably cool and their occupancy was way down from previous years. The mornings were cloudy and looked like rain, maybe in the low 60s; the afternoons cleared off and temps in the high 70s and higher. We went to the beach on the second day arriving when it was still cloudy and cool and kept our clothes on (hoping for a change in weather like we had the day before). As noon approached it got warmer, we had more company on the sand, and by midafternoon it was HOT!<BR><BR>As an aside, it was quite startling to realize they dumped raw sewage from the marina into the public beach area. As you step onto the beach there is a long pipe which comes from the marina. As I walked along the beach the pipe turned in toward the ocean. On my way back I walked along the edge of the water--not barefooted, lots of glass shards--as I approached the outlet of the pipe a man who was leaning on it, smoking a cigarette said, "Madam ??????" and tapped the pipe. I knew what he meant, said a quick, "merci" and stepped out of the water. Seconds later the sewage came gushing out and it kept coming for more than an hour!<BR><BR>It was absolutely beautiful everywhere in France. If you are near Bormes go to the medieval city at the top of the hill, it was lovely.

Normally the weather is really nice in May and ... it's far less crowded than July and August.<BR>I bet you'll have a beautiful holiday.

I agre that May is likely to be good - - but a lot depends on your definition of WHERE in the south of France. The term is sometimes used as a synonym for Provence or the Cote d'Azur (Riviera) - - but it also applies to Biarritz, Bordeaux, the Dordogne region, as far north as Lyon and much of the French Alps.<BR><BR>All of the south of France is a fairly low precipitation area - - it's not Seattle nor Florida - - the "Sunshine state" (many parts of Florida actually get MORE rainfall annually than Seattle does!)<BR><BR>But Cahors, for example (in the Dordogne) gets more rain in May (a whole whopping 2.4 inches) than in any other month.<BR><BR>All these figures are from www.worldclimate.com for those who want to look up more such weather stuff.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

Thank you all for your replies. Actually we are dividing our trip ..one week in Nice and one in Aix en Provence.<BR>I am trying to find out about trains and busses for day trips out of Aix, but I can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have info or know of a website?<BR>I found one with day tours, but we would really prefer to be on our own.
