May holidays in Paris

Hello everyone,

I am escorting my older parents through Paris from May 4 - 12 before transferring them to my sister who will escort them on a second leg to Italy.

Although they were avid travelers, this will likely be their final trip to Europe as they are just beginning to get a touch confused/forgetful.

Our tickets have been booked already and as I have began my research I noticed we will be in Paris during Victory Day (the 8th) and Ascension Day (the 9th). There is also Whit Monday (on the 12th). I understand as public holidays banks, schools, businesses and many shops will be closed but that it may not effect the Museums or restaurants.

Is anyone familiar with that holiday week in Paris? While I’m assuming banks will reopen on Friday, with that many holidays so close together, does Paris shut down more or less for those 6 days for everyone to enjoy some time off?

I’m trying to get a sense of expectations during our stay. While my parents would be interested in going into some stores, they will be mostly invested in attending the museums and art galleries.

Thank you for any input!

There will be no problems for you. May 1st would have been the only holiday where everything is closed. However, Paris will be very crowded, even more than usual.
