May Day in Paris

The final day of our trip will be a national holiday (May 1). We are in Paris until 8PM.

What suggestions do you have for that day? I understand that the Eiffel tower and Notre Dame (but not the towers) will be open.

Merci!

Keith

Here's a thread chowhound board about what to expect (and not just about restaurants).

Walk around. You might see a few demonstrations; the Left on the Grands Boulevards and Bastille, the Right ending its march at the statue of Joan of Arc at the corner of the Place de la Concorde.

When I was in Paris on May 1 I took 2 Paris Walks tours. I've taken the walks they have on May 1 and both are interesting. The Marais walk should end at Place des Vosges where there were buskers and a lively crowd.

May 1st is not a problem. It is impossible to get bored in Paris, even when the "attractions" are closed. Walking around the city is a joy.

Have you been to the Promenade Plantée? That should be spectacular on May 1st.
