May Bon Appetit
 

Yesterday in the mail I received my May issue of Bon Appetit, "Delicious Paris". While reading a lot of the recipes, not only did my mouth water, but I returned to Paris.

I haven't been able to find it yet, but I'll go to B and N tomorrow I'm sure with luck!<BR>It is mostly recipes or is the focus on bistros, cooking classes etc...?<BR>Thanks!

I found it at my local bookstore yesterday. It seems to have lots of good information - still haven't had time to take a good look at it.

You probably already have it, Wendy, but mine arrived today, and it's got lots of recipes, but also lots of info on restaurants. Only one small mention of cooking schools (near the front) that just covers the usual suspects.

I subscribe to this magazine so I too have the new copy on Paris. It is interesting but in my opinion has one MAJOR FLAW. It gives no prices for any of the places listed, not even a suggested range (oh well they did warn readers that the Tour d'Argent was expensive - really?). The issue would have been even more useful if prices would have been included. I visit Paris frequently so I am familiar with a lot of the places they list, and I know most of them are on the pricey side, even their so-called affordable ones. However, the recipes will be useful.

I think the recent issue of Gourmet magazine devoted to Paris was infinitely more useful (and engaging) than this one. Bon Appetit not only didn't give prices, but even more importantly imo it offered just a handful of <BR>addresses and telephone numbers (at the end of the issue) for the many <BR>restaurants, shops, and hotels that were mentioned.

I agree with Elaine, while the Bon Appetit issue was interesting, I found it to be mostly devoted to food. The Gourmet issue was much more useful, in fact, I have several 'things to do' circled for my upcoming trip.

I also received my copy of Bon Appetit and I agree about the lack of listing prices and good directions for locating a restaurant. My favorite bistro?, Astier, was listed there. I found this one in Patricia Well's book and the restaurant, a short walk from the Republic, was very moderate in price. Must make reservations in advance.

I grabbed the next to last copy at B&N yesterday and agree - it looks "nice", and I can never get enough input on Paris, but Gourmet (and this Forum) gave better info and more real ideas of how to occupy ourselves on our upcoming trip!
