May 1 - Rome

We'll be in Rome on May 1.
We know it is a holiday.
What is closed?
Are there any interesting events to attend?

>>What is closed?<<

Pretty much everything.

>>Are there any interesting events to attend?<<

There's normally a mob-scene rock concert at Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano.

Unlike the US - where the labor movement has become largely moribund - Labor Day is still a major holiday in europe. Generally tourist attractions are closed but some restaurants and there is a major parade.

thanks. Good for the
Europeans !

We were in Nice last year at the same time - I remember a huge number of Italians in the city. Also the traffic around Nice was a mess.

We landed in Rome on May 1, 2005 and were warned that we would have trouble with closed restaurants etc.
In fact we found a fine restaurant a few paces from our apartment and an open supermarket around the corner. During the day we visited the Piazza Novona and St Angenese church. With a little planning you should have no trouble despite the holiday.

thanks. We'll be in Rome for 10 days, ,as you said, we'll plan the day around the closings.
