Maxius Straightening Iron
 

Has anyone tried using the Maxius Straightening Iron with a converter in Italy. I have a 1600 watt converter; however Maxius says you can't use their product even with a converter. I don't understand why.

It would be better to find a dual voltage straightening iron. Then, all you'll need is a plug adapter.

Converters are heavy to pack and may or may not work with an appliance that heats up.

You need to purchase a dual voltage straightener as djk stated and then use a plug adapter so that you can actually plug the appliance into the outlets in Italy.

Many people here with expensive flat irons buy a cheap Conair or similar brand with dual voltage at Target or Walmart for around $15 -- flat irons and curling irons are known to malfunction and die when abroad.

I took a chance and purchased a good flat iron at Bed, Bath Beyond (with dual voltage) since I didn't want to have two flat irons and it works great in the States and EU.

I bought a cheap dual-voltage one as I don't use it that often -- it's a Revlon and only cost $15-20. I really would suggest that you follow the directions, and if it tells you not to do something, don't.

yes buy an inexpensive one for the trip, I took an expensive one and it became ruined. I used it with the converter like the pamphlet says not to do. Leave the good one at home.
