Matisse - Danse, until May 9th in Amsterdam

If anyone is visiting Amsterdam in the next few weeks then you have a chance to see the amazing painting Danse by Henri Matisse at the Hermitage Museum.

Yes. I was there and it is well worth seeing. Simply wonderful.

I love your posts, very informative, thank you. Are you an American living in Amsterdam? Is it hard for an American to get a job in the Netherlands. I'm an archaeologist in the US southwest.

Thanks isusie.
I am British, and I live in a small town about 40 minutes from Amsterdam.
I love the Southwest. Lucky you!

What does your screen name translate to? Is it hard for foreigners to live in the Netherlands?

It is not good Dutch, but it sort of means it's me.

I am not the person to talk to about living here. I haven't had a happy time here. Probably due to where I am. The Dutch are tough to get to know in small towns - they all seem to be related to one another and very close.
My husband is very happy though.

I think living in Amsterdam would perhaps be easier. Certainly you do not need Dutch initially there but it is good to learn it.
NorCalif lived in Amsterdam for a year last year, and is coming back for the summer so it must have some plus points!

I do feel lucky to live in the southwest, I've been to the Grand Canyon a number of times, to the bottom twice, once by foot 30 years ago and once by mule just a few years ago, all over southern Utah and the many parks there, all over New Mexico, all over Arizona, but I truly love the Netherlands and northern Belgium. I love the Dutch masters art and the old architecture and castles and of course the friendly people. We we're just in Amsterdam at the end of Jan and saw the Avercamps at the Rijks, wonderful!
I work outside most of the time in the desert so you do kind of lose your appreciation of the beauty of it. Its funny that people always long to travel and don't really appreciate what's in their own backyard. Thank you again for your many informative posts, I'll look up NorCalif.
