MasterCard debit cards in Italy
We will be staying in Radda in Chianti and need to use ATM's. I searched and found Banca Toscana locations all over the place. Their website states that the following cards are compatible at their ATM's:
CartaSì, VISA, VISA Electron, American Express, Diners. I emailed Banca Toscana to ask about my MasterCard/Debit and they said it is possible to use it at their locations. I am skeptical because MasterCard is not listed in the group mentioned previously. I found a MasterCard ATM locator online and there were only two listed which were both in Milano. Does anyone have experience with this? |

Your MC/Debit card should have Star, Plus, Cirrus, Interlink etc. on the back. If so you can use them at an ATM.

Plus is associated with Visa and is not on the back of my MasterCard. The ATM I have found in Chianti does work with Plus. I know that Cirrus is associated with MasterCard but it is not listed on Banca Toscana's site. I believe Star is only in the States and I have not heard of Interlink.

Well, I know that on alot of the ATM machines in Italy they list like 10 different ones.I do recall seeing Star in Europe. I'm sure it will work, check with other banks over there. Good Luck.

Thank you for your help laartista.

It seems that the point is in the "CartaSi". I've looked for it on the web and it is an italian card that it's associated with Mastercard network. Maybe that's why they say it works...

Thank you kenderina, I didn't think to look up CartaSi. I just did and with a translation website's help, it looks like it probably is associated with MC although the translation wasn't completely clear.
