Marseilles on Sunday
 

I am leaving soon for my Med cruise. Someone told me that everything is closed on Sunday in Marseilles. Is this true? What is open then? Shopping, museuems, etc.

nowadays, I don't think there is any large city where everything is closed on Sundays, so I wouldn't worry. Museums are rarely closed on Sundays, since that's a prime day for people to be able to go. Marseille has many museums, and most are closed on Mondays. A couple minor museums are closed Sunday (museum of Santons and history of Marseille), but there are many others.

I don't know about shopping, but I've never seen any city where shops that catered to tourists were closed on Sundays, so if you just want to look around and pick up a souvenir, I wouldn't worry. Is there something special you want to shop for? Someone else would know more about that than me as I'm not a shopper and have only briefly been in Marseille.

No, not everything is closed on Sundays in Marseille. In fact, you will find nearly everything (if not all) open. I was there 10 months ago over a weekend and shopped at C&A, H&M, and numerous other stores/boutiques up and down the boulevards near the harborfront. I did notice a few restaurants were closed, however, the majority of them (esp near the harbor) remained open for business. If you have the time while in Marseille, there are boat tours out to the Chateau D'If (where the Count of Monte Cristo was based) to see the former prison there. It was very interesting and the views looking back towards the Marseille coastline were stupendous!
