Marseille or Montpellier airport?
Planning a trip which will include Provence, Languedoc and Dordogne regions. We were thinking of flying into Montpellier or Marseille. Will flying out of Philadelphia.
Logistics for Montpellier seem a little more difficult than Marseille because of airline scheduling . Is the Marseille airport user friendly ( we need to pick up a rental car ) and are there other option which we are overlooking? TIA |
We did this just this October but we flew into Marseille (MRS) and out of Toulouse (TLS), MRS good for Provence and TLS good for Languedoc. MRS is a very user friendly airport and rental cars are just outside the front door.

Like Richard, we too flew into MRS (connecting from Paris CDG) for our travels throughout Provence. Then heading into the Languedoc area, we flew out of TLS to CDG and then home.
The MRS airport is just big enough, and picking up car rentals is real easy. Fortunately we were able to drop our car in TLS at the train station which we just couldn't seem to locate, so simply turned the key into the Concierge at our hotel and ask them to arrange to either drop it off themselves or have the rental company retrieve it (have no idea who did what); and then took a taxi to the TLS airport. |
I've also flown into Marseille and rented a car there, and found it very user-friendly and easy. And easy to get out of the area from there by highway, also.

Thanks. I think Marseille will probably be our pick. . Just a case of waiting for airlines to have some sales now!

We went to Provence last summer, and flew out of Montpellier. Montpellier was a beautiful place. Our last night in France was really special there. It is an easy airport to deal with as well.
