Marriott on the Riviera

I would like to know if any has stayed at the Marriott Riviera Hotel Cap d'Ail. It is right outside Monaco. Does anyone have any rants or raves about it? Thanks for you help.

Someone in our family stayed there and enjoyed it--it will now be about 2 years ago. In fact we just booked it based on their comments.

Nancy,
We stayed there for a week in June. We booked it, because we had a free Marriott week, and that location was a great jumping-off spot for things we wanted to do. The hotel itself isn't the best Marriott, but the location is good, the staff is helpful, and all rooms face the marina. The hotel has a free shuttle van that will take you wherever you want to go, and then pick you up. We had a great time. If you want any further info about the area, hotel, restaurants, etc., please post and I will reply with any info I can provide.

Cathy,
When you stayed at the Marriott was it clean? Also, did you find the location convenient? Thanks

Hi Nancy,

The hotel was clean and the location was good for us. Like I said before, the hotel provides a free shuttle for any activities you might want to do within Monaco----the palace, casino, aquarium, etc. It is within walking distance to the commercial center, and it is right on the marina. There is no beach at the hotel, but there is a great one (though rocky) within walking distance. You can pay about $7 a day for a lounge chair, umbrella, and cabana boys to bring you drinks and food. There is also a wonderful seafood restaurant there that we absolutely loved. I was surprised to see people lounging around the pool at the hotel, when they could be out on the beach watching the yachts go by-----after a morning of sightseeing. Be sure to go to Eze while you are there. Will you have a car? How long are you staying there, and is your stay part of a longer itinerary? These things will determine what activities you will be interested in. Let me know if you have any more questions that I can help with. We had a wonderful time there, and I would be glad to share any info I have.

Cathy,
Thank-you for your message. You've been very helpful. I have one more question, do you recommend renting a car? We will be there for five nights. Thanks again.

Cathy Aug 26th, 2002 02:15 PM

Nancy,

It all depends on what you want to do in the area. We had a car, mostly because we were driving on to Italy. But we were glad we had it, so we could go to Eze, Nice, Diano Marina, and other places. If you are just going to stay in the area, you really don't need a car, with the shuttle offered by the hotel. It all depends on what activities you are going to enjoy. The restaurant I wanted to recommend for seafood is on the beach near the hotel, and is called the Lamparo. If you have more questions, please let me know. I am happy to answer.
