MARRIOTT Dalmahoy Hotel Edinburgh Information?
We have booked several nights in September at the Marriott Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club, located just outside Edinburgh. We got an extremely good room rate, so good it could not be refused. We also wanted to be on the outside of the city as we plan some country side touring as well as in city visits.

Has anyone stayed here? I am curious as to ease of transport from this hotel to the center of Edinburgh (bus, train, etc). We will have a car but do not want to drive into the city and have parking hassles. Also any general information about the hotel will be appreciated ... no need to expound on how good/bad the golf courses are as we are not golfers and will not use that part of the facility. Thank you all.

There is no train station anywhere near Dalmahoy. Buses do pass the gates, but I don't have details. You would probably be best driving in and parking in a big lot, leaving the car there until you're ready to go back to the hotel. Street parking is very difficult and mostly metered in the center of the city, so it wouldn't be a convenient option if you want to spend the day sightseeing.

If I remember right, this place is about 2 or 3 miles from the airport. There are several transportation options from the airport. You could park there and take the city-airport shuttle which is inexpensive and very frequent.

Hey thanks all....good info. I have done some farther research and what I have found agrees with your input. I think the plan will be to drive into the city, park in one of the public lots (I have found that there like 20 odd available right in city center) and spend the day. There is a train station at Kirknewton, but if we have to drive to station we might as well drive into city. I have also considered the airport but it will probably cost more than the city to park there all day. So, drive it is. Again, thanks to all who posted replies.

You can drive into the city -- BUT most of those parking lots fill up early and are very expensive. The city gov't is actively trying to discourage private car use in the city centre so they do a LOT to make it difficult for you. When they one-wayed princes Street that was about the last straw. So ask at the hotel for the best place to park before you set out.
