Marriot hotel,Champs Elysees
 

I would like anyones thoughts on staying at this hotel. I have points so the price is very reasionable. I will be syaing there 4 nights and also will be staying in the 4th Arr. at the Grand hotel Jeanne D Arc.

While I can't comment on the hotel itself, the Marriott is located between the Arch de Triumph and the Louvre, very close to the Seine. So, while you are there, you can see the Eiffel Tower, Arch de Triumph, Louvre, possibly a river cruise, and check out the shops. It is a very crowded area. When I was there this past May, it was my least favorite area, but one to experience non the less. From the 4th, you'll be right by Notre Dame, the Pompidou, and just across the river from St. Germaine area. Do take time to explore that side of the river. It was my favorite.

I've just booked a return trip for next April. Can't wait!

The Champs Elysees would be one of my last choices of where to stay in Paris. But at least it is convenient, so if the price is right, do it.

In May, we stayed at the Marriott Champs Elysees for free using points. While many Fodorites detest staying at an American chain hotel while in Paris, we on the other hand were extremely pleased with our stay at the Marriott. Certainly the price was right.

The hotel is a four (five?) star hotel with all the services and amenities one would expect. Our room was HUGE with a queen bed, sofa, coffee table, desk, lounge chair, amoire, large marble bathroom with both a tub and separate shower, and two closets (one with a chest of drawers and a safe).

Upon arrival, the business center was very efficient in delivering a fax I was expecting from Germany. The business center is open 24-hours with four or five internet terminals, if that's of interest to you.

The staff was particularly attendant -- fluent in both French and English. The concierge was quite helpful in getting the restaurant reservations we wanted.

There is a doorman stationed 24 hours, and a key card room key is required for the elevator, adding to the security of the hotel.

The location is convenient. The Franklin D. Roosevelt metro stop is nearby, Laduree restaurant is across the street, and many sights are within walking distance, including the Musee Jacquemart Andre, which is among our favorites.

Overall, if you can stay at the Mariott Champs Elysees using points, I would say, "Go for it."

We stayed there for a week and loved it. Would highly recommend it--location was great, staff helpful, room large and very comfortable. My only complaint was that they kept giving us new robes every day even after I insisted we didn't want them to! Otherwise, it was great.

Go for it! It will be like two different vacation experiences. The Marriott is luxurious and you can play like international big shot, Jeanne D'arc is funky and fun. You'll be tasting two different parts of town. I think it will be a very unique trip and you will have a blast.

If you can get a room at the Marriott free go for it...check out the rates for October (you didn't say when you were going)...this is an expensive hotel

Yes, I agree, go for it as you're using your points to stay there (& you must have quite a bit of points to be able to do this!). And you will also be able to stay at a small, charming hotel too! You're so lucky! The Marriott looks and sounds really nice and at least you'll be getting a large room. And although it's on the busy Champs Elysees location is pretty good. You can walk pretty much anywhere.

Double check that you can use your points for THAT particular hotel. We tried, and had already redeemed our points, when we were told that the Marriott on Champs Elysees, because it is such a small and fabulous hotel, was not included under point redemption plans. I yelled anbd screamed but to no avail. This was a few years ago, so things may have changed, but do indeed double check--the only other Paris Marriott is not in the city center.

I think there is a list of participating Marriott hotels that you check before redeeming the points.

I'm glad to read something about the hotel as I booked in using (gulp!) 195,000 of my 199,000 Marriott points for five nights in May 2005. I had to use the anytime points as none of the nights I wanted were available. But, its free, so what can you say!

Rodpile, have you already gotten the certificate to use these points. For almost the same points, you can get a week's stay,plus airfare, at other locations. We did this for both Hawaii and Australia. You get much more 'bang for your buck' that way. Look into it if it's not too late.

Hello! hubby and myself staying at Marriot @ Champs as well in Nov. hopefully we will be able to bring you back a review when we come. Are there any maps of the street online? We would like to know a few good restaurants/cafes/ sights to check out in that area.

To Subash: As mentioned in my post above, we had a wonderful stay at the Marriott Champs Elysees. We will be there again in November.

Be sure to make at least one visit to Lauduree (they serve breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner). It is located just across the street. They have a wonderful patisserie, and the chocolate macaroons are to die for.

I found the hotel concierge very helpful with local restaurant recommendations. He introduced us to Escrouzailles (22 rue du Colisee, Tel: 01 45 62 94 00, hours noon-2:30, 7:00-11:00), which was wonderful. It is two or three blocks off of Champs Elysees, and is very popular with the locals. The concierge can call and make a reservation for you.

In November, we will try Bistrot de l'Etoile (19 rue Lauriston, Tel: 01 40 67 11 16, Metro: Charles de Gaulle Etoile). It too is walking distance from the hotel. We heard fantastic reviews of this restaurant, and want to try it ourselves.

The concierge also has a packet of sightseeing cards with maps and information on local sights. Obviously, the Arc de Triomphe is just down the street. But the cards did help us find the Jacquemart-Andree Museum, which immediately became our favorite small museum. The J-A also has a dining room which looks wonderful.
