Marmaris to Pamukkale
I will be arriving in Marmaris by Celebrity cruise ship at 8 am .Our ship leaves Marmaris port at midnight the same evening.
Is it possible to take a trip to Pamukkale and back? How long does it take by hired car or is there a regular coack trip.
What would be the cost and time it takes.

It will take about three hours each way by hired car. Some spiralling mountain climbing on the way, but the roads are good.
You cannot afford to wait for regular public bus and then change to a dolmus at Denizli bus depot.
Ship excursions are usually very expensive but there will be cheaper private guides with minivans for two three couples. Check on Cruise Critic and similar sites.
Don't be taken by pine honey offered to tourists in marmaris.
This honeydew will probably be product of glucose syrup fed bees or a combination. However, if you are interested in honey, and have time to stop at a supermarket, check for the "Tema" brand. It is a nature foundation providing assistance to bee farmers and has the best natural products for quite reasonable prices.
I think i added this last paragraph because i am dieting and had a sudden yearning for honey which is a definite No! No! although i have a jar of special thyme honey from datca, very near Marmaris at home. No i shall not touch it. Well...maybe a dash of....

I really do not know any local Marmaris tour operators.
there is Burak of www.allaboutturkey.com whom i met at a Trip Advisor GTG as he was a DE, and then retained to guide my daughter's in-laws last year. A pleasant person who would have the contacts. Then, we know of Fest Travel which is the top tour operator in turkey for cultural tours and if you google them and call them, i am sure they can also help.
If you take a bus or a group tour, it may take that long to get to Pamukkale from marmaris. A private driver.guide should do it in maybe a bit over three hours since he is not going to take you to carpet shops, jewellery shops, leather shops etc. on the way.
The travertines are interesting but may be a let down. a bit like finding that the sea at St. Thomas is not as blue and as calm as in the brochures when you arrive at Bolonga Bay and that the Calypso singers are not Henry Belafonte look-alikes in looks or voice. hieropolis is fine but the antique city, Aphrodisias may be as good or better. However, i cannot tell which one is better time wise.
