Markets in Croatia
 

Are there markets in Croatia that are similar to the ones in Provence? My daughter loved the ones in France, and we would love to find some in Croatia too. Help please!

i was looking in dubrovnik and hvar
nothing on a big scale
a few lace sellers, dried flowers that kind of thing

the fresh produce- fruit and vegetables werent impressive either but that was in the old town of dubrovnik

didnt see anything in zagreb but there might be some in the outer towns

we travelled through a lot of little villages - ie popped into them along the coastal route to dubrovnik and didnt see anything- not in trogir and not in zadar or ston or the markarska region

It very much depends on the time of year and where you are. There is a large market in Zagreb, but I am going to assume it is not at all comparable to anything in Provence. There is a similar market in Split. The market in in Dubrovnik is smaller but nice, for things like fish and figs.

yorkshire is right - it certainly does depend on the time of year. Zagreb's is actually quite bit (especially Fridays and Saturdays) but unsure about March when you are going. Dubrovnik's is nice, too.

There are all sorts of markets throughout Istria - I will look some up for you.

Have been to the Trogir market (fairly big) but have not been there in March. There is one in Rovinj as well (but again have not been there in March).

Dubrovnik has a green market which is sells fruit, vegtables, flowers which is located in our port of Gruz. There is a very small open market in the old town, which is taken down by noon or earlier depending on weather.
Forgive me for sounding like our local weather service, but I am house bound as it hasn't stopped raining for the past week, it's taking a toll on me as I am out of books to read.
Make your choices of where to stay in Dubrovnik very carefully. We have steps, lots and lots of steps. And I must stress the locals will tell you their steps are no problem and it's only 5 minutes to old town. Since your mother is coming on this trip, you must make a choice close to the old town. Forget trying to drive in Dubrovnik, you want to get rid of your car immediately. Walking and public transportion around town is wonderful and it's not expensive to ride our bus.
