Maribel Seville Guide Help !

I was reading the Maribel Guide and saw the Murillo listed as Hotel not very hightly recommended!
I am booked to stay at the Murillo apartments and had read on MYTripAdvisor that it had been renovated last year.
Any tips- Maribel or anyone else- shall I cancel my booking ? Anyone has some positive feedback for me?

Maribel Mar 22nd, 2005 11:03 AM

Hi spainwardbound,
If it has indeed been renovated, it's a renovation well over due. The last time I saw it, it was looking quite old and tired. I haven't seen a post from Olga, our resident sevillana, in a long time, but maybe she'll check in and see this.

Have you seen www.exploresevilla.com?
The webmaster, Jeff, an American living in Seville, contacted me recently, and I think he's done a great job with his site-clearly a labour of love! He gives us all extremely detailed info on the city-everything you wanted to know, even stuff you didn't know you needed to know. It's jam packed with useful tidbits. If you don't get feedback on the Murillo here, just email Jeff. He'll know.

Wow! That was prompt- thanks. I really wished I had read your guide before I booked. I booked an apartment (room n a kitchentte) for 89 euro/night for 2 adults n a kid- so I was excited.
Will wait to get some more responses and then maybe start researching again on Hotel options in Barrio Santa Cruz.

Hi spainwardbound -- I don't know anything about the Murillo, but I recently rented an apartment in Sevilla through the sevilla5.com site. They were prompt to respond to my inquiries and the website has loads of good information, maps and photos (inside and outside of the apts.). They feature some apartments in Barrio Santa Cruz. We rented one of the Arfe apartments, just past the Cathedral into the Arenal district.

Just FYI in case the Murillo doesn't work out for you.

i did not stay at the murillo apts. on last trip to sevilla but picked up a brochure in lobby and certainly think it seems like an excellent option.
the photos are very attractive and the location is tops.

front desk was very kind, also.

Maribel: I just checked out Jeff's Sevilla site (you mentioned above) since I intend to "explore sevilla" in May. It looks like a great site -- thanks so much for recommending it. Is Jeff the same Jeff who works at sevilla5? It's a great site too.

Just a quick note: the site address is www.exploresevillE.com (not sevillA). Silly English language, changing the spelling of cities!

Maribel Mar 22nd, 2005 02:31 PM

Hi Molloy,
Oops! You're absolutely right, as always.

It's www.exploreseville.com, all in English.

Yes, it's the very same Jeff who works at www.sevilla5.com. He's spent a great deal of time preparing this web site, is very proud of it, as he should be, and I wanted to get the word out about it to Fodorites.

Again, www.exploreseville.com

SevillE; not SevillA

p.s. sent you an email re K.C.

spainwardbound,
Just looked at the photos of the apts. for 3 and 5 persons. Yes, they were renovated last yr. Much improved. The Hotel Murillo itself is still a 2 star.

As Molloy says, you might want to compare options/prices with Marcus at www.sevilla5.com just as a 2nd opinion.

Thanks everyone for the info. I am not looking for anything too fancy- just a good bang for the buck- clean and good location.
Will definitely check sevilla5.com.

Spainwardbound: Those apartments look nice! Great location too. The only thing I didn't see in the fotos was a window. On such a narrow street that might be an issue. If you are claustrophobic or just like a little air and sun you might take that into consideration. I think a real plus with the Murillo Apts. is that you would have the hotel's front desk staff nearby in case you have any problems or questions.

Maribel: you are too kind. You provide all the info and I just change an A to an E ;-). (I recieved your e-mail from Sunday and replied. Is there a more recent e-mail from you?)

Hi we're visiting the area for 5 nights in November I think staying 2 nights in Seville and 2 nights in Granada any tips for 3 night. We arrive into Malaga airport and are hiring a car

sally - this is an old thread from 2005. Maribel sadly hasn't been seen in these parts for quite some time.

I suggest that you start your own thread.

Malaga would be a nice place to spend the 5th night, but actually adding it onto Seville might be better if it fits with your timings.

One night stands don't work. You never get to know the city. Add another night to Seville
