Maribel, I need you! Please help
I have been pouring over Trip Advisor, Fodors and your guides for months. We will be in Spain for 10 days. We are starting in Madrid then onto Seville then Granada and ending in Barcelona.

I have the hotels narrowed down after many exhausting attempts. We like to walk, we LOVE to eat, we LOVE museums, we do not tend to be the party all night type on these vacations because we will spend a good 8-10 hours a day walking around. We like to eat a substantial breakfast (not the pastry and coffee types), we like nice bathrooms, quiet and nicely appointed rooms and in some places (especially Barcelona) we want a pool. We like hotels that are a little more boutique than mass appeal, but like the amenities that a hotel versus a B&B has to offer and we do want them to feel Spanish. But since we are going the first week in July, AC is a must.We tend to be somewhere between moderate and luxury (btwn $150-$225 a night) But we do want to splurge a bit in Barcelona.

So here is what I have:

Madrid - Catalonia Las Cortes or ME Reina Victoria
Sevilla - Las Casas de la Juderia (very mixed reviews)
Granada - Fontecruz Granada
Barcleona - The Majestic, Casa Fuster or Hotel Omm

Can you help me? I would love to book them all and them move on to reading the other parts of your guides more thoroughly!

Muchas Gracias!

We just got back from a trip to Spain that included a stay at the Catalonia Las Cortes which we liked very much. I too used Maribel's guide and used it (and other postings/websites) to choose this hotel and I'm really glad we did. I'm not sure where the ME Reina was but we really liked the location (close to museums) of the Catalonia, had a nice big room, WONDERFUL breakfast. The only negative is they were doing street work right in front of the hotel so it didn't look very nice upon approach or from our room, and we were there on the weekend so not sure if the work noise would be bothersome, but overall I was very impressed with this hotel and would definitely book them again.

Catalonia Las Cortes and ME Reina Victoria are both good choices. The ME is located in the Plaza Santa Ana, while the Las Cortes is on C/Prado, leading into Plaza Santa Ana.

It seems the entire area is under renovation. Some areas are worst than others. The city is installing new electrical and water systems, but they do not work at night or on the weekends. We spent the night at the Prado last week and heard nothing.

Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia in Sevilla works for me.

Fontecruz Granada is brand new property and well located on Gran Vía de Colón, down the block from the AC Palacio. The bus to the Alhambra stops nearby.

The Majestic is always our first choice.

The Casa Fuster is also very nice, but generally more expensive than the Majestic.

The Hotel Omm is up the street and around the corner from the Majestic and a different style of hotel, a bit more upscale with a very active bar/restaurant on the ground floor.

Thank you so much! These boards, Maribel and Trip Advisor have been so amazingly helpful. i really dont think I could have done all of this without them and without the "kindness from strangers". We plan on booking all of these hotels within the next couple of days. Then I can move on to train schedules, restaurants, tours, walks, museums and Jewish history! Muchas Gracias amigos.
