hi ranald,
The one you have is the latest edition. I'm eagerly awaiting her revising it! Because she hasn't updated it with recent hotel and restaurant discoveries from her trips and her NY Times articles, I use it for her favorite restaurants (still in business, thank goodness), itineraries, historical and cultural info, recipes and supplement her guide with other regional guides. Her hotel info is rather out of date now as a plethora of charming, small boutique properties have opened all over the Spanish countryside, plus new, stunning paradors. To find those, I use www.rusticae.com www.innsofspain.com www.secretplaces.com www.estancias.com www.parador.es www.specialplacestostay.com plus all my "charming hotel guides" written in Spanish and a British volume I bought in Spain, "Small Hotels and Inns of Andalucía" by Guy Hunter-Watts. For our April trip through Andalucía we took the Andalucía chapter from Penelope plus Lonely Planet Andalucía, Footprint Andalucía Handbook, Time Out Andalucía, and I also took along travel/food & wine mag, articles in English and Spanish from my vast files. I love detail! In fact, the brand new Rough Guide Andalucía, hot off the press, I think is even better now than Lonely Planet. For first timers I think the Cadogan Andalucía and the Thomas Cook Signpost Andalucía & Costa del Sol are quite good. When we do the Paradors, we also like to follow the driving itineraries in the older '89 "Discovering Spain" by Michael Busselle (Pavilion Press). And Karen Brown's 2 southern driving itineraries, "Moorish Memories" and "Andalusian Adventures" from her "Spain: Charming Inns & Itineraries" we've really enjoyed. |
Maribel, I understand you have some files on Spain that you can e-mail. We are in the early stages of planning a trip to Anadlucia and Portugal. Anything you can send me would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, Maribel. I love this site and your posts. In May we're going to Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba & Granada, and would love your famous files. We plan to rent a car in Madrid & drive to Avila, Segovia, Pedraza de la Sierra, Toledo, and then on to Cordoba & Granada. Is it better to drive back to Madrid from Toldeo, turn in the car & take the AVE to Cordoba, or should we just drive from Toledo to Cordoba? Appreciate any suggestions you can give. Thanks!

Carol,
If you would please send me an email to [email protected], I'll send you the info that you need via return mail. I'm leaving today on a long holiday trip until Jan. 5, so please be patient, as I won't have much email access during that time, Thanks, Maribel |
Hi Maribel,
I tried to write you via your email address that was posted earlier requesting your "infamous" Madrid file but alas, I had no success. I would still appreciate your file if it is still available. My wife and I will be spending 4 nights in Madrid in May, 2004, then flying to Barcelona and picking up a cruise for 12 days. Thanks in advance for your assistance. [email protected] |
Message: Mirabel:
Me gustaria ver tus files sobre Espana. We posted a query which starts - We have access to 1 wk at a timeshare in Calhonda, Malaga (Mijas-Costa) starting July 10 and then one final week starting July 31; that leaves us two weeks to visit Sevilla, Cordoba, Jaen, Ubeda, Toledo, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca and back to Mijas (Malaga)...I have read of so many references to your files and wonderful advice and I am very intrigued. Please send the files to us at: [email protected] Thanks/Muchas Gracias! |
Hi Mirabel! My boyfriend and I are planning are first trip together abroad... 4 weeks in Spain and Portugal (fly into Lisbon, out of Madrid) and have been sitting here poring over your recommendations. We don't have a clue how we're going to spend out time yet, especially as we're hoping to meet up with his parents for a couple of weeks! Ideally, we'd like to find a central location to stay in most of the time and take some day trips, but don't know if this is a reasonable option. We'd really appreciate any ideas, and especially your wonderful files if you could provide them to me: [email protected] Thank you!

Have 2 weeks to explore, then 3 days at Ibiza, then home. Would very much appreciate your file notes and any ideas to fill in itinerary.
