Margaret Island PM transport

going to be in Budapest during Budafest, getting tickets to 8:30pm performace on Margaret Island (crossing fingers)

How do we get there and back from Castle District?

It's walkable, or you can take a tram (well, two trams, a short distance on each). I don't remember the numbers, but you can find out easily enough when you are there.

wow, that was quick! I thought I read somewhere that the trams stop at 11pm? I guess if it's walkable I won't worry (too much.) Type-A's shouldn't be allowed to go on vacation, except we're the ones that need it the most :-)

I think you might be right about the trams. They do stop at night, and perhaps as early as 11pm (I don't remember exactly, but I do remember having to walk back to my base when I had supposed I could take a tram).

You could take a taxi, but it might be difficult to get one after an event. It is best not to hail a cab on the street, as they generally charge the highest legal rate, which I think is fairly expensive. If you have a phone, the general advice is to call one of a few reliable firms that charge better rates. The one I use is City Taxis because their number is so easy to remember: 2 111 111.

thanks - I'll save their number. will my Israeli GSM phone work in Hungary? I've only been here for 2 months, before that we had the anitquated "only in America" phones.

I think tram 6 goes across the bridge to Margaret Island and perhaps ups to Moszkva (sp?) ter. However, some maps of Budapest have the tram routes/numbers on the maps which will make it much easier to figure out routes, etc.. Most trams do stop at 11PM.. with a few buses, trams that run largely parellel to the metro routes.
